When the light vanished, it wasn’t pain that came for me first.
It was silence.
The kind of silence that rings louder than thunder—total, enveloping, hollow. I didn’t feel the pull of my body anymore. I didn’t feel Aria’s hand in mine. There was no ground, no air. Just void.
And then…
I was standing.
No. Floating?
I looked down—there were no feet, no shadow, no skin. Just a faint shimmer where I should’ve been. Around me, the space pulsed like a heartbeat behind a wall. Everything was dusky violet, flickering like candlelight caught beneath water.
I had passed through the Veil.
This was the space between.
And I had no idea how to get back.
