Finally, Sainapei made it. She was at the United kingdom, to study and probably even get a job there and even stay forever.
" Here we are," the gentleman with Sainapei, who had introduced himself as Mark, said when they drove through the gates of the University of Birmingham.
Sainapei was happy, surprised, shocked, tensed and proud of herself all at the same time, i mean, it was everyone's dream to study in an international university, with a scholarship, to be precise. She was shown her room in the school hostels and Mark gave enough money to keep her before they paid her a visit. He then left and Sainapei was there alone sitted on her bed tired of the day. There was another bed so at least she had a room mate to talk to. She took her diary and wrote down all which she had been through from being born in a forest to now studying at Birmingham. A tear then falls from her eye and she whispers to herself,
" Yes, I can do this."
That evening, she met her room mate and they became friends right away.
"I'm Alice,"
"I'm Sainapei," they introduced themselves to each other.
Alice was a second year student studying Law. Sainapei also mentioned with excitement that she was doing the same course.Alice showed her around the school and for sure, everything was just amazing.
Though most of the students, including Alice, were whites, she was able to make a few friends.A very small population of the school was made of Africans but Sainapei was proud of being there. She studied hard and though there was so much competition, she was always managed to be among the top students in her class. The university was nothing like her highschool. Different people were there, of different ages, and everyone was minding their own business.
Time moved so fast than ever. Sainapei was always busy since her course needed full time concentration and dedication. When there were parties on weekends, she was in her room studying.
During one of their visits to the school court room, Sainapei forgot her gown in the hostel and the lecturer never allowed anyone to go back when the lesson began. They were many of them and so they had to get in shifts. She was very tensed when her shift came. It was then that a who had been watching her for sometime came and offered her the one he was wearing. Sainapei hesitated a little but thinking of being chased out of the class, she just had to take it.When the class was over, she could not find the owner of the gown. He hadn't even mentioned his name and so Sainapei could not ask around for him. She looked everywhere during the lunch break but he was no where to be seen.
" What the hell!" She said angrily.
