Chapter 2: Jitters

Elena's POV

2 Weeks later

My mom and I are running all around the kitchen as I help her get tonights dinner ready. My sixteenth Birthday is tomorrow and I asked my parents to not go all out with a party like most sixteen year old girls would want. All I want is a birthday dinner with my parents and Jay. Reluctantly my parents agreed. We are doing my Birthday dinner tonight since my parents have to be out of town tomorrow for a business meeting. I told them I don't mind at all that it was really no big deal. I keep thinking about how Jay will be here soon and I don't know what I want to wear yet.

I hear my mom say something to me and it brings me out of my daydreaming. She is looking at me as if she is waiting for a response from me. I blush lightly and say sorry mom I didn't hear what you said. She looks at me with a puzzled look. What has been up with you lately Elena? my mom ask. You have been staring off into space a lot these pass couple of weeks is everything okay.? I blush slightly and my mom notices. Is it a boy she ask with a big grin on her face you know you can tell me.

I think about it for a second if I really want to tell my mom about Jay. It's been driving me crazy not talking to my mom about this kind of stuff like we use to. I decided it is time to let my mom back in my life. It is a boy mom I say with my checks turning even more red. Tell me more she says. It-it's J-J-Jay I stammer over. Oh my mom says I see. Yeah, I think I really like him mom. But, he's been my best friend since I was little and I don't want to mess our friendship up so I haven't told him yet. I don't even know if I should tell him I doubt he feels the same way I mean he's eighteen and I'm only sixteen why would he want to be with someone like me anyway. I notice my mom's face has turned into a more serious/stern face and wonder if she's getting ready to yell at me for liking an older boy. He would be lucky to have a girl or I should say a woman just like you my mom says. You are beautiful inside and out. Jaycee would be lucky to have a girlfriend like you in his life. I know he's been your best friend since you guys were little so maybe you should feel him out some and see if you are getting the same vibe from him. I say thanks mom as I'm blushing even more.

Mom? do you think you can handle the rest of dinner while I go figure out what I want to wear? Mom nods her head and I head off to my room to figure what I should wear. While in my room I try on numerous outfits wanting to make the best impression on Jay, but nothing seems right he's seen all of my clothes before. I hear a knock on my door and see my mom walk in with a gift in her hands. What's that I ask? It's an early birthday gift for you I figured you were having a hard time trying to figure out what you wanted to wear tonight so I thought this would come in handy my mom says as she sets the gift down on my bed. I smile at her and say thank you as she leaves my room.

I open the box and quickly put on the dress. I go and stand in front of my floor length mirror and a small gasp escapes from my breaths. I look so beautiful. The knee length like silver off the shoulder dress looks amazing on me. I run my hands over the lace over the dress as I look in the mirror at how it hugs my body in all the right places. I blush slightly as I run to get my makeup to put on just a little bit. I have never been much of a makeup person but I have learned to put on just enough to help bring out my natural beauty. I grab a pair of silver flats out of my closet never been one for heels either. I walk out to the kitchen to see if my mom needs anymore help and as I walk in I hear my dad say Elena you look beautiful. Thank you I say as my checks turn slightly red.

The doorbell rings and I feel my heart leap in my chest. I know it is Jay at the door. I tell my parents I will get it. My dad walks towards me and he says don't worry about it honey I got it. I give my mom a pleading look with my eyes she says babe why don't we just let Elena get it. My dad turn around towards my mom about to protest but he see the look on her face and just says okay and walks back over to my mom to give her a kiss on the cheek.

I walk towards the front door my heart starts to race the closer I get to the front door. I look through the peep hole just to make sure it's really Jay. My breath gets caught in my throat as I see his gorgeous blue eyes. He has his hair looking neat today instead of shaggy and it makes him look even more attractive. I jump nervously as I hear the door bell ring again.

I open the door saying hey Jay. Hey Le- I hear a quite gasp escape from his lips. I look up at him to make sure everything is okay just to see him staring at me wide-eyed. A thought crosses my mind wondering if I should take this as a sign he may just have feelings for me too. Are you okay my voice quakes. Ye-yes he stammers.Y-you look great he says. I say thank you blushing slightly. I wrap my arms around him to give him a hug. I feel him tense up under my hug. I wonder why he does this since he never has done this before, and wonder if maybe he really doesn't have feelings for me. The thought quickly leaves my head as he wraps his arms around me and says Happy Birthday Lena.
