Selina's POV
I just came home from school and received an invitation to chat from a senior inspector? This surprised me and also made me a little nervous. I can't figure out what they want from me yet.
"Have a sit."
The leading inspector was a middle-aged man with an angular face. The most prominent feature on his face was his sharp eyes that seemed to be able to see through people's hearts. When they entered the room, a part of me felt that my privacy was invaded, it made me uncomfortable.
Since my parents died, I am the only person living in this house, since then I have not had any visitors. Nor am I prepared to receive such a special guest.
"Hello, my name is Mark Robert, sheriff of task force 9. I came to you today to ask some questions for the investigation of the case that happened last night. Are you willing to cooperate with us?"
I nodded. The sheriff showed a photo in front of me.
"Ma'am, do you know the person in this photo?"
In the photo is an adult man with a muscular build and a cruel face. Just by looking at him, I felt that he was not a good person, and I definitely don't want to be in a relationship with people like this.
"I don't know him. I'm an introvert and don't have too many relationships. The people I know are wrapped up in a small circle, I definitely don't know anyone who looks like this."
Mark nodded, he asked again.
"Perhaps he's not someone you know directly. Try to remember if you've glimpsed this person somewhere? Maybe it was only for a very short moment so she couldn't remember his face, but felt how about feeling?"
I frowned thinking. Every day I was only at school and home, my ability to interact with other people the most were only the students in the school and the fleeting strangers on the way home. I took the photo from Mark, then stared at it for a few minutes. However, I really don't have any special impression or feeling at all. So I shook my head.
"I'm sorry. I really don't have any impressions. So who is this person? What does that have to do with your coming to see me?"
Mark put the photo away. Maybe he believed me.
"This is a snapshot of one of the serial killers of the past three weeks. However, the night before, he was killed and became the victim of another case."
I was startled by his frank confession. But at the same time, I was also surprised by the information I had just heard. I've been following this case since it was first mentioned in the press. However, I still haven't updated with new information this morning. One of the killers was killed?
"Sir, I have not heard of this information. But what does the fact that the killer was killed have anything to do with your coming to see me today?"
I saw the man sitting next to the sheriff staring at me, which annoyed me a bit. I frowned slightly and noticed that he had immediately averted his gaze. It seems that this is a person who has a very good ability to observe and grasp psychology.
"Ma'am, I'm sorry to be blunt about one thing, we suspect that you might be the target of the killer that night. But now that he's dead, we'd like to ask you a few things to find clues to this case."
I was shocked. I even felt a chill down my spine. Is what this police officer said true? I couldn't imagine if I was really the target of a killer, and if he wasn't mysteriously killed, what outcome would await me?
I clenched my fists, trying to stay calm. Unfortunate things didn't happen, I shouldn't be afraid of that. I took a deep breath, one hand gripping the other's wrist to stop the shivers running down my spine.
"How can I help you guys?"
After I asked the question, I saw Mark's expression soften a bit. He was holding a piece of paper and a ballpoint pen in his hand, which appeared to be a pre-listed questionnaire.
"We'd like to ask you a few questions. First, the time of death of the criminal was determined by the forensics to be from twelve o'clock at night to about one in the morning two days ago. During this time she was gone. where, what to do and with whom?"
I took a deep breath, thinking about the evening of two days ago. I remember that before twelve o'clock I slept to wait for my lover to arrive, Yami arrived at the exact moment the clock struck twelve. However, that night we didn't watch movies and talk like last night, but we directly hugged and made love in the bedroom.
"From six in the afternoon until the next morning I was at home, between twelve o'clock at night and one in the morning, my boyfriend came to find me. Then we went to bed and woke up the next morning. the next day."
After my reply, I noticed that the sheriff took some notes, finally he frowned slightly, then glanced at me thoughtfully.
"You were in this apartment with your boyfriend? Who is he? What is his occupation? Is he a resident of this city?"
"I'm sorry but I can't give you this information. Because I don't know about it myself."
Mark doesn't seem to believe it. The other policemen who were with him probably thought I was withholding information because I didn't want to cooperate.
"Ma'am, you say you don't know? How can you be with someone you don't even know who he is? This is unbelievable."
I know my answer is weird, but it's true. Ever since I met Yami, I've been bewitched by him, I trust him blindly without knowing exactly who he is.
"I'm just telling the truth. I don't care and I don't want to know. There are a lot of people who are in love right now, right?"
They all looked at me with strange eyes. Maybe they think I'm neurotic? But Mark did not seem annoyed with me, he even wholeheartedly advised me.
"Ma'am, please put your safety first. While so many crimes are going on, it's very dangerous to trust someone you don't even know about. We don't. I want to solve more cases. The loss of your vigilance will open the door for murderers, you can't tell if this boyfriend could be a scammer, a psychopath or even a murderer. "
Bella said the same thing to me. I'm a girl with a normal IQ, I'm not insane or stupid, of course I get that. But there is something about Yami that makes me unable to doubt him, I am even willing to put myself in danger as long as I can be with this man.
"Thanks for your advice. I know that, and I'm sure I'm safe."
The man sitting next to Mark whispered softly in his ear. Even though they warned me, they didn't have the right to interfere in my life, so they chose to remain silent. But I caught a glimpse of Mark marking a red "x" on the piece of paper he was holding in his hand.
"Then I'll move on to the second question. Between twelve o'clock at night and one o'clock in the morning, did you come across any unusual situations?"
I frowned thinking. And I suddenly remembered when the window suddenly shook violently that night. At that time I was very scared and assumed that there was a thief or someone trying to break into this house. But then Yami appeared, and I think that unusual situation was caused by him. That's why I don't think it's an anomaly.
I shook my head.
"I don't think so, sir."
The officer stared at me, then he nodded.
"Okay, thanks for your cooperation. Can we take a look around the house?"
I hesitated for a moment. I don't like my privacy being invaded, and I also believe that the criminal has never been here, so the police won't find anything.
"I'm sorry but I can't agree."
Mark nodded as if he understood. However, he still hasn't given up.
"So can we check the window for a bit? Just the window."
This time, I agree.
"Okay."
I then saw Mark and his colleagues go to the location where the window was, and check the bolts and latches. This window has been around since the apartment was newly built, it's not new anymore, there will definitely be some scratches and loose locks, but they can't seem to find any signs of being pry open. or someone tries to get in from the outside.
I wait for them to finish checking and then send the guest out. I also need to cook dinner, do projects, and prepare for Bella and Yami's meeting tonight. I'm so busy, I can't waste any more time.
"We've checked. There are no abnormalities, however I would recommend that you install another stronger window frame."
I nodded in agreement.
"Thanks for your advice. I will."
The policeman led the crowd out the door. He bowed to me.
"Thank you for your cooperation. Have a nice evening."
I responded to his greeting and closed the door. Now I need to go change the water for my flower, I don't want it to wilt too soon.
