Chapter 24: The Witch

Selina's POV We drove deep into the city. At first, I thought that the destination would be in a quiet and airy suburb, but I didn't expect it to be in a crowded and noisy place like this downtown. To be honest, I love watching tarot and divination, but I only like to do it online like through Youtube channels or fanpage, but I have never met a real "witch" in person. like this. That got me pretty excited. "Hey, where did you know this place from?" I asked Bella. Because I feel quite curious, this girl is not originally someone who likes spiritual things. Bella is a scientist, everything can be explained by science. She's not afraid of ghosts or anything like that. "You know I don't care about such nebulous stuff. But I've been dating a new guy lately, you know that right? He likes spiritual and mystical things like that, which is good. ask me to go to a haunted house and watch a movie again. I remember this place of fortune telling because he mentioned it so many times, and said something that predicts the future. I heard it many times but didn't It's just that I ran into your problem today that science and machines can't solve, so I thought of this way. I don't know if it works or not, but give it a try. Not even a little bit." I nodded, feeling that Bella was right. If I keep worrying about a problem I don't know the outcome of, I'll definitely go crazy. I don't know if fortune-telling can give me an answer, but if the things they predict are relevant to me or present signs, then I can also trust those predictions. other predictions that they prophesy. I know there are a lot of people out there who believe in the occult of spirituality, so there must be some basis for them to believe in it. Driving for about half an hour, we parked in a public parking lot. However, Bella also did not know the exact location of the destination. So we went around and asked a few people who lived around. It seems that this "witch" is really famous, so the people of this area know it well. They enthusiastically guided us to the place. They even gave us some important information. "Madame Sinder is a very famous witch in this area. She is over sixty years old, her eyes are blind and lives alone in an old house. Every day many people come to her to make predictions. about the future or solving problems that they think are spiritual matters.Madame has a very special crystal sphere, the person touching it can see her own past and future. I've tried it myself and it's really real!" We walked for about ten minutes, until we turned an alley and saw a house built of stone in the Renaissance art style. That kind guide stopped, pointed at that building, and spoke to us. "Here it is! Good luck to you two!" I said my thanks and looked at the long line outside the door. Just like that person said, a lot of people come here. Based on the way they dress, they are people with completely different jobs and social status. There are young people, there are old people, there are men, there are women. Some people wear expensive branded clothes, others just dress very simply. What they all have in common is that they all have a nervous and worried look on their faces. We quietly went to the queue. Bella leaned over and whispered to me. "The cost per turn here is a dollar. Because it's not expensive and the results are accurate, a lot of people who have heard of it come. Looking at this number, it's probably not until the evening that it's our turn." I nodded in agreement. I've never been to fortune telling so I don't know how much time each person takes. But I think that maybe when the day is over, it's not necessarily our turn. Bella and I were mentally prepared to wait until evening. But to our surprise, it was easier than we thought. People go in and out in a very short period of time. The fastest person only took about five minutes, the longest person did not exceed ten minutes. I am amazed at this speed. It's even faster than hearing predictions from a tarot deck. I don't understand what can one know in such a short amount of time? "Selina, look! They all kept quiet and left immediately. The expressions on each of them were a little dark. Why is that?" I don't have an answer to her question either. I think usually when they just know something about their life, more or less each of them will be a little curious and skeptical. But no one showed such expression, why? We waited patiently for another two hours, while I simply stood still, Bella was already wearing headphones and watching two episodes on Netflix. Finally, it's our turn. Because we could go in groups, we went inside together. The inside of the house is not as big as I thought, it is built in a closed and space-saving style. There are quite a few trees planted around, which makes the light not very good. We walked down a long, signposted corridor, to a room without a door but with a huge black curtain. Bella and I glanced at each other, then lifted the curtain and walked in. The space inside the room is dark, the owner does not use electric lights but lights candles to get light. In the middle of the room is a wooden table, candles are lit and lined up around, surrounded by a glass ball as big as a ball, transparent enough to see through. person sitting in the back. It was an old woman with white hair, wearing a jet-black robe, her eyes closed. This is probably the famous witch, Madame Sinder that everyone is talking about. I found her image quite consistent with the fantasy of witches that I have seen in the movie. Her wrinkled hand rose and beckoned us to approach. I don't know how Madame was able to detect that someone had just entered, maybe it was because of the sound of us opening the curtains earlier? Bella and I sat down at the table, facing the old wizard. "Put your hand on the sphere in front of you." I heard her speak. It is a hoarse and dull sound, giving listeners a feeling of chills on the back of their necks. Bella and I glanced at each other, we both had a bit of reserve in our eyes. In the end it was Bella who put her hand first. "Close your eyes and think nothing of it." Like she had a pair of eyes in a different position, Madame Sider seemed to know our actions. Bella closed her eyes and did as she said. I saw the witch raise her hand, her hands old and wrinkled, while the nails seemed rather long and hard, as if they had not been trimmed in a long time. She tapped her fingernails on the body of the glass sphere. Immediately, the orb lit up. I widened my eyes in surprise. I don't know how she was able to do that. For a few seconds, I saw cryptic images flash in the transparent sphere. It was like a screen showing a movie at a fast speed, I couldn't see what the images were anymore. "You don't have any questions you want to ask me, do you? I don't see any future you want to know. The reason you're here today is just for the girl next to you." Bella and I opened our eyes at the same time. The light on the crystal ball suddenly went out. The strange images from earlier were gone. "Only when you open your mind and communicate your desires can I give you advice. And when you don't have questions, I can't have answers." We both looked at each other. Bella nodded to me and said. "That's right, the one who really has the question to be answered is my friend. Please Madame give the answer to her." "Put your hand on it." This time, I did as she said without hesitation. When I put my hand on it, there was also a light shining from the crystal sphere. I closed my eyes and tried to empty all the thoughts in my head. I don't know if there are strange images appearing like when Bella put her hand up, but after a few minutes, Bella suddenly screamed nervously. "Selina, be careful!" Immediately, a loud explosion resounded. I was thrown away by inertia. When I opened my eyes, I saw that glass ball explode, tiny shards scattered everywhere. I was shocked not knowing what happened. Madame Sinder also fell to the ground, her black cloak strewn with shards of glass. I watched in horror as Bella fell right next to me, fortunately she was still able to get up. I rushed over to help Madame up, but she loudly stopped me. "Stand still!" Suddenly, the witch opened her eyes that were already tightly closed. Bella and I held each other's hands tightly, we were scared to realize that it was just an empty eye socket, the two pupils inside were completely gone! That look was extremely scary. "Demon! You have the mark of the devil on you! A dark spirit in the form of a young man will wrap around you and drag you together to hell! Get the hell out of here! !" Bella and I looked at the witch for a few seconds, then we slowly took a step back, finally leaving the dark room. I still have doubts in my heart about the witch's words.
