Courtney"s alarm did go off a short time later; she just didn"t care. She didn"t need to look in the mirror to know that it wasn"t feasible to leave the house. Her mind braced itself for her mom"s footsteps in the hall, but they never came. She slept off and on over the next couple of hours, but there finally came a knock at her door.
“Yeah.” Her mom poked her head in her room.
“I called you out of school earlier. I think you should eat,” she said plainly. Courtney couldn"t believe there were no questions, but was going to roll with whatever this was.
