Emily’s apartment, once a symbol of her excitement for married life, now felt like a hollow shell. The elegant furniture, the lavish decorations and the impeccable organisation all seem to mock her. Every room, every corner, held memories Blake, if their life together, of their future plans.
As she wandered through the apartment, Emily’s eyes fell upon the wedding dress, still hanging in the closet, a painful reminder of what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Thirty days. That’s all they had left before the wedding. Thirty days , and Blake had thrown it all away.
Emily’s mind was a jumble of emotions as she struggled to come to terms with the betrayal. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of grief unable to escape the pain that threatened to consume her.
She thought about calling her parents, but what could she say? How could she explain the man she was supposed to marry, the man they had welcomed into their family, had cheated on her? The thought of facing disappointment, their concern, was too much to bear.
Emily’s phone rang, shrill in the silence. It was Sarah, her best friend.
“Hey, girl, how’s it going?” Sarah asked, her voice bubbly and oblivious to Emily’s pain.
Emily took a deep breath, trying to compose herself. “It’s… it’s not so good, Sarah. Blake, …… he cheated on me.” She said through tears she had been holding back.
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Emily wondered if Sarah had hung up.
“Oh no,Oh,Emily, I’m so sorry,” Sarah said finally, her voice filled with compassion. “ How did you find out?” And Emily went on to explain the whole heartbreaking story.
And it was Sarah turn to pause on the other end of the line.
“I don’t know what to say EM” Sarah said breaking the silence, sounded so heartbroken.
Em, only her dad and Sarah calls her that.
“I don’t also know what to say, do or think?”. “ How did I miss it?”.
“Em, take it easy on yourself. What went wrong with you two?”. Sarah voice filled with compassion.
Emily laughed, a harsh, mirthless sound. “I don’t know. I feel like my whole world has been turned upside down. I just want to get drunk and forget everything”.
Sarah’s voice was firm. “Emily, don’t do that. You need to take care of yourself, not drowns your sorrows in alcohol.”
But Emily was beyond reason. She felt like she was losing herself, like she was disappearing into sea of pain and grief.
“I’ll be fine, Sarah,” Emily said, her voice flat. “ I just need to be alone right now.”
As the conversation came to a close, Emily felt a sense of relief wash over her. She was alone again, free to wallow in her grief.
And that’s exactly what she did. Emily poured herself a glass of wine, settled onto the couch, and let the tears flow. She cried for the loss of her relationship, for the betrayal, for the shattered dreams.
As the night wore on, Emily’s tears slowly dried, replaced by a numbness that seemed to seep into her very bones. She felt empty, hollow, like a shell of her former self.
With a newfound determination, Emily set to get ready for a night out. She put on her favourite little black top and a fitted jeans, did her hair and makeup and grabbed her purse. She was going to go out, get drunk, and forget everything. Just for one night, she wanted to escape the pain, to lose herself in the noise of and chaos of the city.
As she walked out of her apartment, Emily felt a sense of liberation wash over her. She was taking control of her life, taking a step towards healing. Little did she know, that tonight would start a new chapter in her life, one that would bring her face to face with a mysterious and handsome stranger.
As Emily sat at the bar, nursing her drink, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of desperation wash over her. She had come here to escape, to forget, but the pain still lingered, a constant reminder of what she had lost.
Then she saw him- a tall, handsome man with piercing eyes, dressed in a causal yet luxurious outfit. He wore a crisp black shirt, open at the collar, and a pair of dark jeans that suits his physique perfectly. A sleek black watch adorned his wrist, and a hint of expensive cologne wafted through the air as he moved.
Emily’s eyes met his, and for a moment, they stared at each other. She felt a jolt of electricity run through her body, but she quickly looked away, unsure of how to process the sudden spark.
Unknown to Emily, the handsome stranger had been watching her for a while. He had noticed from where he sat, an elderly man had tipped the bartender to spike her drink, and he had seen the desperation in her eyes. Without hesitation, He punched the bartender, his fist connecting with a sickening crunch. The bartender crumpled to the ground, unconscious. Silently, the crowd didn’t even notice.
He calmly took a seat beside Emily, he ordered a drink with a calm authoritative tone. “ Whiskey, neat,” he told the other bartender, his eyes never leaving Emily’s face, like he was studying her.
Emily felt a shiver run down her spine as sensed his gaze on her. She turned to him, slowly but shyly and held his gaze, searching for answers to the questions swirling in her mind.
Who was this mysterious stranger? And why did she feel an inexplicable sense of safety in his presence?
As Emily gazed into the stranger eyes, she couldn’t help but notice how handsome he is. His chiselled features, piercing blue or green eyes, she couldn’t tell, and an charming expression that screamed luxury, just like his outfits. She could tell he a man of means, someone who was used to getting what he wanted.
“ Thanks” he said as the bartender returned with his Whiskey. “I’m Alex” He said Coolly looking into his drink this time.
Emily’s heart skipped a beat before meeting his gaze, Did the handsome stranger just speak…… to her?
“ I’m Emily” her voice above a whisper.
“So, Emily, what’s brings you here tonight?” Alex asked, his eyes locked on hers.
Emily shrugged, feeling a little bit shy “ Just wanted to get out and have a drink, I guess.”
Alex raised an eyebrow. “ Alone?”
Emily nodded, feeling a little self conscious. “Yeah… I just needed some time to myself”.
Alex took a sip of his drink, his voice dropping to a whisper “ I know that feeling.”
Emily’s heart skipped a beat as she felt his voice send shivers down her spine. She couldn’t help but wonder what he meant by that.
As they chatted, Emily couldn’t help but notice the way Alex seemed to command respect and attention without even trying. His presence was like a magnet, drawing people in without him even realising it.
But despite his charismatic presence, Alex seemed secretive, low-key. He didn’t reveal much about himself, and Emily found herself wondering who He was?
