He saw the uncertainty in her eyes and he reached out to caress her cheek, but she flinched and backed away slightly. He didn’t miss the fear that flickered in her eyes momentarily. His hand froze midair and it took a moment for him to realize what the problem was. She was like that because she had been exposed to all sorts of abuse and at times she couldn't control herself.
