His red eyes locked onto Aria again. “You just confirmed exactly what I needed to know.” Kael stepped forward. “What are you talking about?” Vargan smiled wider. “That the Moonborn power is fully awake.” Aria frowned. “That was already obvious.” “Yes.” Vargan turned toward the forest. “And now… the real war can begin.” Aria’s stomach dropped. “What did you do?” Vargan looked back one last time. “I called the others.” Kael went still. “…others?” Vargan’s red eyes gleamed in the moonlight. “The rest of the Alphas.” The forest erupted with howls. Not three packs. Not four. Dozens. Kael whispered, “Oh no.” Aria slowly turned toward the dark treeline. More glowing eyes appeared in the woods. Far more than before. Vargan’s voice echoed softly as he disappeared into the trees. “You made your alliance.” His laughter drifted through the forest. “Now let’s see if it survives the night.” Aria exhaled slowly. Lyra stepped beside her. “Well.” Torren cracked his neck. “This just got complicated.” Darius smiled faintly. “War it is.” Kael looked at Aria. “You still glad you agreed?” Aria stared at the growing army of wolves. “…Ask me tomorrow.” Above them— The moon shone brighter than ever. And the first Moonborn War had just begun.
