Red eyes.
Claws dripping with blood.
Aria felt a cold weight settle in her stomach.
“Let me guess,” she said.
“Vargan.”
Mara nodded slowly.
“The first Alpha who believed wolves should rule the world… not live beside humans.”
Kael’s jaw clenched.
“That’s the same belief he still holds.”
Aria leaned back against a pew.
“So an ancient power wakes up inside me, the most dangerous werewolf alive suddenly shows up, and apparently I can control wolves.”
She pointed at Kael.
“No offense.”
“Some taken.”
Aria ran a hand through her hair.
“This is insane.”
Before anyone could answer—
The warmth inside her chest surged again.
Stronger.
Brighter.
Aria gasped slightly as silver light flickered across her skin.
Mara whispered,
“The moon is waking inside you.”
Kael’s ears twitched.
Then he suddenly turned toward the chapel door.
“What?” Aria asked.
His voice dropped.
“They’re back.”
“How many?”
Kael’s golden eyes sharpened.
“Too many.”
A distant howl rolled across the forest.
Then another.
And another.
Aria stepped toward the door.
“Vargan?”
Kael nodded grimly.
“Looks like the Alpha wants to see what the Moonborn can really do.”
Outside—
The forest began to fill with wolves.
