Aria blinked. “…So,” she said slowly, lowering the dagger. “You’re the werewolf.” He dragged a hand through his hair. “And you,” he replied, “were seconds away from stabbing the guy who just saved your life.” Silence stretched between them. Then, despite herself— Aria laughed. He stared at her like she’d lost her mind. “You’re not scared?” he asked. “You fought off the one attacking the village,” she said. “That makes you… slightly less stab-worthy.” “High praise.” Their eyes met. Something strange flickered in the air—heat, tension, curiosity. Aria stepped closer. “You could’ve told me,” she said. “You tried to stab me in the first ten seconds.” “Fair point.” The corner of his mouth lifted. For a moment neither of them moved. Then Aria leaned in just slightly, studying him. “So,” she said softly. “What’s a werewolf doing protecting a village that wants him dead?” His golden eyes met hers. “Maybe,” he said, voice low, “I’m waiting for someone stubborn enough to learn the truth.” Her heart skipped. The forest suddenly felt warmer. Dangerous. Interesting. Aria smirked. “Well,” she said, sheathing her dagger, “looks like I’m staying a little longer.” The werewolf smiled. And this time, it showed just a hint of his fangs.
