"I can't believe you did this to me," Sarah said, her voice shaking with anger.
"I'm sorry, Sarah," her best friend, Rachel, said, tears streaming down her face. "It was a mistake. I didn't mean to hurt you."
"You didn't mean to hurt me?" Sarah scoffed. "You slept with my boyfriend behind my back. How could you not mean to hurt me?"
"I know, I know," Rachel said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I was drunk, and he was there, and I don't know, it just happened."
"Excuses, excuses," Sarah said, shaking her head. "I trusted you, Rachel. I told you everything, and you betrayed me. How could you do that to someone you call your best friend?"
"I don't know," Rachel said, her voice breaking. "I'm sorry. I really am."
Sarah sighed, her anger slowly turning to sadness. "I don't know if I can forgive you, Rachel. You've broken my trust, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to trust you again."
"I understand," Rachel said, her voice filled with remorse. "I'll do anything to make it up to you. Anything to earn back your trust."
"I don't know," Sarah said, her voice wavering. "I need some time to think. I need to figure out if our friendship is even salvageable."
"I understand," Rachel said, tears still streaming down her face. "I'll give you all the time you need. I just hope one day you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
