Chapter 2: past monsters

"When I was little I had a friend she was my best friend me and her did everything together but then one day I suggested we go to the river by my house and go swimming. I...I... I didn't know...I didn't know she couldn't swim she never told me! Me! Her best friend "my voice cracked a bit as I continued "so anyway I had pushed her in ... she squeal and smiled she seemed ok but then she start calling my name crying and screamed splashing around helpless. I jumped in and wrap my arms around her and tried to pull us to shore but she was bigger than me. I was drowning and she knew it. She grabbed me and threw me on shore ... I still hear her last words... sisters."

he stares quietly at me like as if I were a sad puppy...

" so that's why you have no friends?" he asked " that's not an excuse you need to get back out there meet new people you might even find a new best friend"

" don't you get it I don't want a new best friend" she frowned at him " if I wanted a new best friend I would have found someone by now... I just want someone to tell me that it wasn't my fault I didn't kill her."

"well it wasn't your fault you didn't kill her" he said taking my face I his hand.

"I don't know..." the sound of the bell ring startled me.

"Hey meet me by your car after school" he leaned in and kissed my forehead stood and left. Sighing gently I stood and went to class.

That day was the fastest day of school I'd ever experienced in my 13 years (courting kindergarten always hated the whole nap thing) of school. Stepping out of chemistry I found him leaning against my car. I smiled and ran up to him.

"Hi." I said breathlessly. He lean in again and my heart stopped. Was he gunner kissing me?

"Get in I want to show you something" he had a breathtaking smile and his eyes filled with excitement. I wanted to ask him what exactly but then why ruin the fun...Right?

So anyways I nodded and slipped into the passenger side to find my key still in the ignition.

"wow I was so upset about the crumbs I forgot to take my key" I giggled." speaking of... where are the crumbs?"

He smiled again this time he just winked.

"You didn't?!" I exclaimed

"Oh no I didn't clean it your brother did. Also on Saturday he will be washing and waxing your car for you just remind him" he chuckled as my bottom jaw dropped to the floor. "Well isn't that sexy...anyway we are here.

"Uhhh. Where is here... there is nothing but trees here." I said getting out the car as he did.

"Just come." he held his hand out to me. I walked around the car and took his hand. Suddenly I felt a wave of electricity run through me. He looked over and smiled.

"What are you showing me?" I finally asked him as we walked deeper into the trees. Yeah I know I meet a guy and right off I'm in the middle of nowhere with him... sort of creepy but I was blinded by his smile and charming ways.

"that," he pointed to a beautiful cabin that was surrounded by a small gate of thorn bushes he led me through the small entrance of the gate within the gate there was a garden filled with ever type of vegie grow in the USA . He bent down and picked an onion and a few peas and carrots. He then led me inside. I gasped and stood in awe of the place it looked like a life sized doll house I had when I was six. The maroon colored love seat and couch both matched the ivory glass table that sat before the fire place.

"Is that safe for when the fire is on?" I asked him, he was just standing there letting me take in the place.

"I've never really used it I just found this place like this. Grandfather say that the state said anything on the reserves belong to the Luca tribe so since I found it I never really told anyone.

"But me... why?" I asked

"Well angel because I feel like you'd never tell on me. Now come on time to cook" he led me into the tiny kitchen." I kind of had the kitchen and bed room redone though. There was a wood stove that I couldn't really function."

"And the room?" I asked pulling my hair into a ponytail.

"Was filled with female stuff. I kept a few of the clothes just in case of an emergency-"

"Where my clothes would disappear right of my body or would catch on fire?" I laughed opening the fridge I pulled out some milk the looking I found some chicken flavored tofu.

I placed them on the counter as I close it. At this point we both had a clear image of what we were making. I watched as Derwin chopped the the carrots and I laughed again pushing him away and I minced the vegies. He chuckled pulling out a sauce pan and poured the milk in. I tossed the minced vegies in as the milk began to sizzle. He added some salt and fresh spices.

"What are we making?" he asked looking at the food as if it were poison which I bet it was

"Dog food?" I asked shrugging. As he laughed he tossed some of the tofu chicken in and watched it. It smelled great trust that but as I watched him taste it I knew he was going to hurl. I hastily grabbed a trash can and held it in his face laughing as he spit it out.

"Wasn't half bad try It." he held a spoon full in my face.

"Oh no no no" I laughed taking a step back. "Did you see your face? You were a light green!"

He stepped closer till I had stepped into a corner and he had trapped me. He leaned in again and my heart stopped. Was he really going to kiss me this time? Then his eyes closed and his lips captured mine. I slowly closed my eyes I loved the taste of him sweet like apples. He placed the spoon on a nearby counter and wrapped my arms around his neck then wrapped his arms around my waist. As we kissed I could smell our experiment burning on the stove but I really wanted to ignore it but the fact that we were in a wooden house made me pull away. He looked at me and smiled, neither one let go of the other.

Finally finding my voice I said "it's burning. The food"

He pecked my lips again then let me go and turn the stove of tossing the contents into the trash and the pan into the sink.

"You think DoorDash would come out this far?" He joked

I giggled and stepped away walk toward the garden out front.

"How about a simple veggie broth ? Vegetarian chicken noodle soup?"

"Sounds great. Spicy?" He asked hopeful

"Is there any other way?"
