A Trial of Justice

“You know, you still haven't told me what happened between you two," Clara said as she walked in with her handbag. It was the usual resumption time for all the other workers, except for me. I had to arrive early because I’m the CEO’s personal assistant, which I find quite irksome. “A good morning to you too, Clara. My night was fine, thank you for asking,” I replied while arranging my desk and setting up the paperwork that needed to be revised and reviewed. “Okay, let me start over. Good morning, Alessia. I trust you slept well?” She smiled as she walked closer to me. “Care to explain what's actually going on with you two?” "I'm not in the mood for that," I shrugged off. "I hope I don't find out when you both are done tearing each other apart," she teased me with an evil laugh. "Fine, fine. Kevin Walker and I used to be in a relationship." "No way!" Clara exclaimed, placing her hands over her mouth in surprise. "Shhh... you can't let anyone know about this," I rolled my eyes. "Pinky promise for real. But girl, you are on fire! I can't believe Mr. Hottie is your ex." Clara sat beside me, her curiosity piqued. "We dated for eight months, but I broke up with him after finding out he was cheating on me with my best friend," I explained. "Gosh, I'm so sorry, Alessia," she said, embracing me. "It's his loss—he had a chance with an amazing woman." "True. He’ll never find someone like me who loved him for who he was, not his money. But you’re lucky with your man and two kids." "He hasn't proposed yet—I'm just his baby mama,” she replied. “Clara, get the pending documents from your chat mate and report to me now," Kevin ordered as he passed my office. "Chat mate? How dare he?" I fumed. "It’s fine; he saw us chatting. Where are the documents?" I handed them over as she rushed to his office. I couldn't help but think, "What a frustrating boss." I turned to my laptop, the screen glaring at me like a reminder of unmet expectations. I sat in silence, trying to gather my thoughts, but they felt jumbled and aimless, preventing me from focusing on anything productive. “I need you to resign by tomorrow.” Kevin’s command came out cold and direct, his eyes glued to the screen before him, as if I wasn’t even worth a moment’s attention. The sheer casualness of his words left me stunned, as if he had just delivered a death sentence without any remorse. My mind raced to comprehend the gravity of his announcement. “What?” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper, disbelief flooding my senses. “You heard me. Resign by tomorrow. Start looking for another job elsewhere or consider applying for a different position here. My girlfriend will be stepping in as my personal assistant. She knows me inside and out, so she’ll do a far better job than you ever could.” His proclamation felt like a slap in the face. “Th... that’s not happening,” I replied, my voice shaky but gaining strength as I felt the heat rising in me. The audacity of his demands ignited a fire within, and I refused to accept being dismissed so easily. Without another word, I turned on my heel and stormed out of his office, each step down the stairs fueled by a mix of anger and determination. My hands clenched at my sides, fighting to keep my composure, but it was a losing battle. As frustration and hurt surged within me, I found myself sitting on the stairs, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably. I had been contemplating quitting on my own terms, but who gave him the right to dictate my choices? The unfairness of his ultimatum weighed heavily on my heart, and I knew I had to reclaim my power and make my own decisions moving forward. Mr. Mario knows that I am the best at what I do. I haven't made any mistakes while working with him. Is it due to his personal animosity toward me? Perhaps his girlfriend convinced him to take my position. Whatever the reason, I was furious with him. “I need to see him,” I said, wiping away my tears. “You will do no such thing. She has worked in this company for over four years now and has significantly impacted its welfare. She will not resign from her position.” “I see she already discussed this with you, Father.” “If Markisha wants a job in the company, why not make her the Purchasing and Procurement Manager? I heard you got the former manager fired a few days ago because he raised his voice at you.” “Markisha doesn’t have the knowledge needed for that position. Making her my personal assistant would be much better for me. She understands me more than Alessia does.” “You selfish man. You only care about yourself and how you benefit from every change. Do you ever stop and think about how this might affect others? It’s always about you.” “Father, don’t speak to me in that manner.” “I have come to the end of my discussion with you. Don’t make me regret leaving my company in your care.” Kevin struggled to concentrate on the matter at hand, but intrusive thoughts kept interrupting him. He was so furious he felt like strangling me at that moment. He left the office and stepped onto the balcony to get some fresh air. “I guess I have no choice,” he sighed in frustration. “What department are you looking to join? I suggest you consider the Demand and Inventory Department. You basically assisted Sir Hutson when he was in charge before he got promoted to Land Management.” “I spoke with the former CEO, Mr. Mario Walker, Kevin’s dad.” “Wow! How did you know him?” “I was his PA before he resigned. We were close, so I hoped he could talk Kevin out of this.” “Nice try. I hope it works because I can't lose another good coworker.” “Me too, thanks.” I returned to my seat, feeling the warmth and comfort around me. My eyes swept the room, noting the dark red walls and a portrait of a lion with her cub, reminding me of my mother’s protective nature. I had to stand up for myself; after all, who else would? I took a deep breath, grabbed my pen, and wrote an apology note to Kevin, aiming to clear any animosity he might feel toward me. --- Good day, Mr. Kevin, I want to sincerely ask for your forgiveness for any way I might have annoyed or disrespected you. I seek to improve my performance if you give me a chance to continue working for you. If not as your personal assistant, I do not wish to join any other team. I would also like to resolve any resentment between us. Let’s move on from the past and work towards a better future. Kindly review my request in accordance with your wishes. Sincerely, Alessia Cesar. Trial of dismissal
