-POV Derby I tried to leave his penthouse that night. I stepped back from his chest, bent down to pick up my bag from the floor, and reached for my jacket that was hanging on the back of the chair. My fingers kept slipping because they would not stop shaking. The fabric felt heavy in my hands. “I need to go home,” I said, forcing the words out even though my throat felt tight and dry. Jordan stayed right in front of the door. He did not block the way, but he did not move aside either.
