The main course arrived on heavy white plates. I stared at the food but didn’t taste anything when I took a bite. The table was full of conversation. People talked about business deals, golf scores, and which school their kids went to. I sat there smiling when someone looked my way, nodding like I understood every word. But inside my head everything was quiet and loud at the same time.
Jordan sat on my right. His knee still touched mine under the table. His hand found mine once or twice, quick and hidden. Each time his fingers brushed mine I felt the same pull I always felt.
