The silence I had tried so hard to create lasted exactly four days.
Four days of careful distance, of short replies, of choosing the long way through the building just to avoid the places where I knew he might appear. Four days of telling myself that space would make everything clearer, that reducing contact would loosen the hold he had on me, that if I just held on a little longer I could remember how to breathe without feeling his presence in every quiet moment of my day.
