I jumped out of my skin when I saw Derick in my room, his eyes red with sadness. I just prayed he hadn’t read my thoughts, as I didn’t know how long I stood near my door, thinking of all that had happened between me and my Johnnie.
“You cheated on me Marylin, Derick said with tears in his eyes. Why? Was I not enough for you?”
I began to feel empathy towards him. My face flushed with guilt, the guilty conscience I threw away last night on the bed with John returned to me now stronger than ever. I didn’t know what to say to Derick, I knew I had hurt him badly and there was nothing I could say now to justify myself.
