The drive back to the cabin was quiet. Jake was forced to keep his eyes closed as much as possible due to the bright light. Kaitie knew how much Jake's head hurt and did not try to speak with him during the drive.
When they arrived home, Kaitie helped Jake inside and onto the sofa. She pulled the curtains to darken the room before going to the kitchen to retrieve medication for his headache. When she returned with the pills and a glass of water, she found Freckles firmly planted on Jake's lap.
“Your furry nursemaid is trying to make you feel better,” Kaitie said as she sat beside Jake.
“That he is, and he does. His purr can cure almost anything. He should be studied to see if it can be reproduced,” Jake smiled as he took the medication and glass.
