Kaitie was excited about the day. It was slightly overcast, which allowed for good light, but not so much that Jake would be in distress. He was recovering so well from his injuries that she wanted to surprise him with a little hike in the snow. Kaitie knew Jake was becoming depressed due to his inability to physically and mentally do the tasks he would typically complete unassisted. She was still in bed. Jake lay behind her with his arms wrapped around her. It was the safest and most comfortable feeling she could ever remember.
