HUNTER POV “No you’re not, Jackson is my mate.” A low growl rumbles through me. “That’s bullshit.” I say. “No, he told me on his birthday the second he felt the mate bond.” Kayley says as she tilts her head to the side. “He’s lying to you, Kayley. I feel it, right here.” I clench my fist against my chest. “I feel you.” I reach out and stroke her cheek, goosebumps dance across my flesh. “You’re the one lying.” She swats my hand away and steps back, shaking her head. “No Kayley-” “I need to leave.” I watch as she quickly grabs her little backpack and heads out of the kitchen. “Wait, don’t go.” I call out as I follow her to the front door. “Hunter, stop, I’m going home to my mate.” She emphasizes the word ‘mate’ and it feels like a knife in my chest. “Let me walk you home.” I offer
