I had really hoped they’d find those keys. All the planning, all the risks, and now we were back at square one. My head felt like it was full of static, blank and useless. What do I even say? What do I think? The disappointment was crushing.
Andrea must have sensed my frustration because she reached out and placed a hand on my arm, her voice calm but not enough to put a smile on my face. "Ayra, we'll try again I promise. There will be another time. But you see, we tried... We really did. I guess those keys didn't just want to be found."
I stared at her, shaking my head slowly. "Some other time isn't what I have, Andrea." My voice cracked a bit, the weight of it all pressing down harder. Every day we wasted was a day closer to nothing changing. "Time isn't on my side... or theirs."
