Chapter 3

500 Words
Evelyn turned off the shower and quickly wrapped herself in a bathrobe. Aaron stopped her at the bathroom door. "Why didn't you wait for me to get back before showering?" Aaron liked to bathe with her. It was their regular routine. He loved the silky feel of the bath foam and never got tired of it. She always complied obediently, never refusing. He pulled her into his arms and reached to untie her bathrobe. "Come on, let's shower again." But Evelyn grabbed Aaron's hand. "This afternoon in the conference room... It hasn't even been that long. How can you want to again...?" Aaron thought Evelyn was complimenting him, teasing her by her ear. "You little vixen, you have no idea how captivating you are. Just seeing you makes me want to." In the past, upon hearing such words, Evelyn would have probably thrown herself at him. But now, she found it ironic. How could this man be so obsessed with another woman in his heart, yet act so infatuated in front of her? She avoided his approaching lips. A sharp pain tugged at her heart. "So if we don't see each other anymore, you won't want to, right?" Aaron was taken aback, sensing something was amiss, and once again grabbed her waist, his hands restlessly exploring. "You're my personal secretary and my lover. How could we not meet?" Lover? Hearing him say those words was indeed laughable. She pushed his hand away again. "I'm on my period." Aaron's hand paused, and he let her go with a hint of frustration, pacing around. But soon, his expression softened, and he hugged her. "Hungry? Let me take you out for a late-night snack." At that moment, Aaron's phone vibrated, and he opened it. With just a glance, he saw Fiona's profile picture flashing at the top. Fiona: Aaron, I'm not too familiar with things since I just got back home. I'm hungry. Do you know any good places for a late-night snack? Aaron quickly stood up. "Evelyn, there's an urgent matter at the company I need to handle. You go to sleep first, do not wait for me." Before he even finished speaking, he dashed out the door, slamming it shut. Thunder rumbled outside, and she curled up into a ball, unable to fall asleep. Suddenly, the memory of him holding her tenderly under the aurora in Argenia flashed in her mind. "Evelyn, you're never allowed to leave me. I want to give you the grandest wedding here..." The vows still echoed in her ears, yet he was already with another woman. Evelyn didn't know when she fell asleep, but when she woke up, it was already morning light. Aaron was not there. She was feverish, her body burning, yet a chill seeped from her bones, making her curl up involuntarily. Evelyn struggled to get out of bed, trying to go to the hospital. Just then, Aaron called, and she was too flustered to answer in time. He called repeatedly, almost frantically.
