When Aaron returned late at night, Evelyn was already in bed.
In the darkness, he embraced her from behind as usual.
"Are you feeling better? I'm sorry, there was an urgent matter at the company..."
She kept her eyes closed, her breathing steady.
"Honey, a friend wants to host a party this weekend. Can you help make the arrangements?"
Evelyn's back stiffened, and she trembled slightly, her voice hoarse.
"Are you sure you want me to go?"
Aaron's lips brushed over as he leaned in.
"Babe, I only trust you."
A silent, bitter smile curved her lips. She shifted slightly, evading his touch.
"Okay." she said quietly. "I'll do it."
She thought of it as the last task he assigned her before she left.
Fiona's party was planned for a villa in the suburbs.
This villa was originally bought by Aaron as a marital home, with Evelyn personally overseeing the renovations.
But she never spent a day living there.
He always used to say, "Evelyn, you are my secretary in public, so it's not appropriate for you to live here right now."
So, for five years, they always met at the small apartment Evelyn bought.
The day before the party, she went to help out.
Fiona had only moved in a few days, yet the villa was already filled with her presence.
Beside the bed, there was a photo of her and Aaron playing a piano duet.
In the photo, the young man slightly tilted his head, looking at the girl beside him, unguarded affection in his eyes vividly apparent.
So, Aaron also had such a shy and innocent side, not just someone who conquered women.
Fiona arrived just in time.
Just as Evelyn saw the photo, she stood behind her.
"Evelyn." Fiona stated plainly. "Do you know that Aaron took a knife for me? Risked his life for me? He love me so much that he defied his brother, stood against the world. As a secretary and someone after money, how much would it take to satisfy you? Name your price."
Evelyn turned to face her. A faint, almost amused smile played on her lips.
"Ten billion. You got that?"
Not giving Fiona a chance to respond, she turned and left without hesitation.
After leaving the villa, Evelyn went straight to a real estate agency and listed her apartment for sale.
She set the price very low and told the agent, "The sooner, the better."
On the day of the party, Fiona wore a dazzling emerald necklace around her neck, shining brilliantly.
Evelyn had seen it in Aaron's office before.
At one time, she thought it was something he bought to propose to her.
Friends and classmates teased him.
"Aaron, you and Fiona haven't changed at all over the years. You're still the golden couple from back then."
"All these years, you haven't had a girlfriend. Come on, confess. Have you been waiting for Fiona all this time?"
Aaron smiled faintly and didn't deny it.
They reminisced, talking about many things from their school days, while Evelyn was just an outsider.
Suddenly, Fiona blurted out, "I miss the cakes from the shop near the school gates."
Her eyes turned to Evelyn. "Ms. Williams, would you be a dear?"
Evelyn didn't respond, but Aaron spoke up, answering for her. "She doesn't know the way, I'll take her."
Just as they reached the door, they heard the sound of glass shattering behind them.
Someone exclaimed, "How's Fiona? Is she hurt?"
Then he tossed over his shoulder. "Take the company car."
And he was gone.
