Absentmindedly, I rub the side of my stomach as I get bundled up to leave the hospital and head home. A nurse walks by, nodding her head at me as she passes. “Nice work today. Extra credit for what you did for Betty. She needed that conversation.” I duck my head, letting the hair fall around my face to hide my pleased grin. It was a simple conversation in my opinion. I’m no counsellor, but it was clear Betty needed more than only physical help with the recent passing of her husband. I gave her an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and a mouth of careful suggestions. I don’t want the credit for it, even if it is nice to get. The biggest prize from today is the fact that I assisted someone without any magic at all. Goodness came from within me, not some power provided by the Goddess. O
