The second the final witch has vacated the area, Lucas is by my side, a careful smile stretching his face. He’s happy, but his eyes continue to bounce behind me, ever scanning for more danger.
“It’s nice to see you both.”
Mia approaches then as well, her face pinched and tight. “We should retaliate.”
By my side, Carina stiffens, but doesn’t otherwise react.
“No,” I say, deepening my voice into a command I know her wolf won’t ignore. “We’re leaving them be. They’re Carina’s family, and they did no harm to us.”
Her teeth smash together and her eyes flick angrily toward Carina. “Fine,” she spits. “Welcome home, alpha.” Mia spins on her heel and stalks away into the thick of the trees.
