Jax opened his mouth to talk, but no words came out. He stood there, speechless, and lost. After a few seconds, he finally regained himself. "So what happens now?" He asked, his eyes showing how furious he was. "You have turned to her defender?" He asked, not fearing what might be the consequences for challenging the Alpha, and that was because he knew Elara won't allow Ronan to punish him. "Yes. I am defending her." Ronan replied. The little group that had gathered by the corner started murmuring among themselves. "He's actually protecting her..." "Why would the Alpha preference her to...?" "No," Elara whispered to him, insisting hr let her be. "You don't have to do this in front of everyone." She said in a calm tone. "Do what?" Ronan asked, a little confused. "Interfere in little matters like this, like I needed saving from anyone." That made him pause, and Jax took that as his opening to start laughing. "Oh, this is really interesting." Elara turned to fully face Ronan, as her eyes pleaded to him. "Don't interfere." "Elara..." He called her name softly "I said you shouldn't." By now, her voice had started cracking, but she still pushed on. "I don't need more attention on me," she continued. "I don't need to be the center of hatred from everyone in this pack." Ronan moved a step closer to her, lowering his voice that only her could hear him. "You're already drowning in it, and the least you can do is to allow me help you." Elara flinched the moment he got closer, his breath fanning her face. The pack members stood watching them, judging, and mocking as well. "Please...just let it be the way it is already." After much pondering, Ronan reluctantly decided to move back, his eyes still glued on her. Jax scoffed as he watched them, annoyed at their display of affection for each other. "What a pathetic sight," he muttered, almost to his own hearing alone. But Ronan heard him, so he turned slightly to where he was standing. "Leave this minute!" Jax hesitated, but knew better not to disobey the alpha, or his head would be rolling on the ground. "You are going to regret this," he said, but careful that no one heard him. The crowd didn't wait to be their turn, before they slowly began dispersing. But the damage had already been done. Elara stood there for the next five minutes, staring into space, her face lowered. Ronan didn't move, he stayed with her. Then, when everyone was gone, he finally decided to speak. "You can't keep pushing me away from you, it won't help anything." Elara didn't turn, didn't look at him. "I gave to do this my way." "Why if I may ask?" "Because, the moment you stand with me...that makes you a part of whatever I'm passing through, and I don't want that." She said softly. "But I don't care." That finally pushed her to look up at him. "You should, you're the Alpha." She whispered, tears almost gathering her eyes. "I choose not to run away." Elara shook her head in disagreement. "This isn't your fight." He bent to her level, his breath fanning her face. "It became my fight, my concern the moment I touched you." This made Elara's wolf to stir within her, but she still supressed her. "No," she said in a stronger tone. "Don't do it." Ronan stopped as she demanded, but he wasn't ready to let go. "I can assure you that you're not alone in this," he said calmly. She didn't say anything, instead, she turned, and walked away, leaving him standing there all alone.
