"Who?"
The maid hesitated again, and I watched as her fingers tightened around the edge of the apron she was wearing. This kind that made me concerned. Who could be this person to make the maid scared of talking?
This wasn't the reaction she expected. The investigation had been going smoothly, and just when she thought she had gotten her answer, everything was now slowing down.
"Who was it?" She pressed on again, her tone coming out sharper this time, even though she didn't intend scaring her away with that.
"A woman," the maid replied carefully. "I saw her enter the Alpha's chambers earlier that evening.. before it got too dark."
This made Kira to furrow her brows, wondering if there were actually twists to the truth she was pursuing.
"A woman?" She repeated. The maid nodded calmly, and with the look on her face, it was sure she knew what she was talking about.
"Yes. I wasn't able to recognize, and that's because I got to know later on she wasn't from the pack."
That response maid Kira go still. Not from the pack? At this point, her mind began to race, as she what awaits her as she go on with the investigation.
"Could you please, describe her," Kira requested.
The maid closed her eyes, but for a brief seconds, maybe trying to recall or picture the face again.
"She was...very tall, and elegant. The kind of woman that doesn't need to make noise for her presence to be felt." Then, she continued. "She wore a dark dress, and from the quality, it was very expensive. Her hair was straight, very long, and could pass for a silk."
Kira stayed mute, not knowing what to say again.
"And, what did you know about her face?"
"I can't tell for sure, because I didn't see it clearly." The maid admitted truthfully. "But from the way she moved, it was more of someone that belonged here. Like she wasn't afraid of anyone or anything."
This made Kira's head to almost explode, as she didn't sign up for that. All her expectation was to uncover Elara's lies, but now, she was working voluntarily without official letter as an investigator for their family problem. And an unpaid one at that.
This wasn't normal in anyway. There was no way an outsider could just walk into the Alpha's house in such manner, except...
"Did she speak with Alpha Ronan?" Kira asked. The maid nodded calmly.
"Yes. I watched her meet up with him in the study. Both of them were there for a while."
"How long did that go on?"
"An hour...or maybe more than that."
"And then, what happened next?"
"I watched her again as she left before the night got so dark," the maid replied. "She moved rather quietly, and no one else noticed."
This brought an awkward silence between the both of them. Kira never expected such twist. To her, she was at the peak of her investigation, and which happens to be the easiest part. She had done everything, bribed those she could buy with money, but suddenly got stucked at the end.
Kira leaned back slowly, relaxing her elbow on a railing nearby. Things were going in the directions she expected. This was rather too much.
"A mysterious woman..." Kira murmured to no one in particular. This made her thoughts to Also change, rearranged, and recalculated.
To her, this new discovery changes everything. If by chance another woman visited Ronan that night, because she was still convinced that Elara dlso visited, then, what exactly happened after that? And more importantly, who was she?
"Did you notice any change... something different about the Alpha after she left?" Kira asked.
The maid paused, waited for a few seconds before answering, or rather, she was choosing her words wisely.
"Yes."
Kira's eyes budged out instantly. "How?"
"I noticed he was tensed," she replied. "It's more than usual. The kind that happens when things unsettle someone."
Kira's lips curved slightly, showing kern interest in whatever was going on.
"Thank you," Kira said smoothly, taking a few steps backward.
The maid nodded, her face showing how happy she was that the interrogation had ended. Kira turned and left, but the moment she got outside, she suddenly stopped on her track.
"This just got complicated, more than expected." She whispered to no one in particular.
She had just come to realized that there were too many possibilities. The story could also be seen on many angles, and the deeper the gets, the more secrets she discovers. This made her to begin pacing restlessly, thinking out loud.
She was trying get best to connect the dots, to break everything down, and perhaps, she might be lucky to trace then back to Elara. From the pregnancy, tho Alpha Ronan's reaction, then to Jax's uncertainty. And now, while she was busy trying to process everything, a mysterious woman comes visiting the Alpha, and on the same night, helping to complicate matters.
Kira let out a soft laugh, the kind that is low and dangerous.
"So...which one of you is now the liar?" She murmured to herself.
This wasn't just about Elara again. It was slowly beginning to form branches, and she didn't know if she was ready for the outcome.
"Maybe, this story has different phases, longer than I thought."
This made her lips to curve into a smile, because she didn't know what was right again at that point.
"There's a cheating girl..."
"A possessive Alpha..."
"And now, a mysterious woman shows up."
"This isn't just any kind of secret." She whispered to herself again.
"This one has to be a mess."
And good heavens, she loved messes. And this is only because, it destroys. But this time, she doesn't want to rush things. Not yet, even though she's desperate for her answers. At this point, it seems life just presented her with options, on a platter of gold.
She could make a decision to go deeper, find the identity of the strange woman. Or, as well use the confusion to get advantage. She could twist the truth, and create more chaos, and at last, they would turn against each other.
"Let's see how long you all could keep your secrets."
