Mira's worried voice cut in softly.
"She will have a chance to live... right?"
The healer hesitated, searching for the right words to reply her.
"If we're lucky to find a match...then yes."
That was hope for her, and she was willing to wait, praying hard to the moon goddess for mercy. She knew they need all the help they can ever get, because it was under urgency, and time was going.
"We don't have long time to do this, if not .." the healer added, and hanging there because they already know what that means. He doesn't need to spell them out to her.
**********"
Not long, the news was everywhere all over the pack. There's a saying that bad news spreads faster than good news, and that was exactly what happened here.
Before they were even tested, it had gotten out to the rest of the pack
To Mira and Ronan, it was a good thing, at least, that would increase their chances of getting a donor faster.
"Selene needs a donor..." One of them said.
"Specifically, a bone marrow..."
"They're going to be testing everyone, to know if there would be a match..."
The pack stirred, not restless, everyone unease.
Some stepped forward to be tested on their own. Others hesitated, considering giving her a chance to live as luxury. Of course, it was luxury, and most wished her dead and gone.
There was a price for it, but fear, and doubt couldn't let many take the bold step. What if the procedure fails, a d the donor doesn't survive it, or is affected in the future for tempering with the blood tissues?
The entire pack stayed that way, all watching, a d waiting for the latest. Many were praying, others busy with gossip.
Ronan stood by the window, still not believing everything happening to him. He got tested, together with Mira, a d the results came out negative. Not even anyway close to hers.
Ronan clenched his fists, his head full with many thoughts.
First it was Elara, now, it's Selene, his daughter. Everything was happening too fast, and at once. He s**t his eyes briefly, his wolf not allowing him to even rest, not even for a second. The more he tried to forget about her, the more the pull kept on coming.
It was very persistent, and unyielding. How can he be passing through this at such a critical time in his family like this?
"Elara...."
He didn't realize when her name slipped out of his mouth quietly. Where has she been? Why didn't she comto check on Selene? Or didn't she hear of her sickness? Why was she still running away from this, when it's obvious there's nothing either of them could do to stop it?
Things had gone bad, yes, but the best us to face her fears, and stand tall. If only she can come to him now that he's in this situation. Maybe then, he could think clearly, having it in mind that she's safe with him. But now, he's worried about Selene getting a donor before it's late, and have to suffer the separation pull from not having her in his arms.
He didn't know where to start looking for her. If they had spent time together, maybe he would have heard her mention pla es that she visits when in distress, but she be er permitted such bond between them. But even with her constantly pushing him away, the mate bond still didn't die off.
He hoped to have someone like her by his side, to help him think clearly. And someone that Selene can relate more with. For all he know, Selene didn't make so many friends, same with Elara. Both of them were always together, and often mistakened as twins.
They had grown so find of each other, that both families became friends for their sake. Even when things started drifting apart because of politics, but of them were still not moved. They kept their friendship, and I often envied them. But now...they are no more....and I contributed hugely to that....
