Chapter 22 Kira's investigation

1029 Words
Kira Storm didn't wait till she figured it out before she did something. She could not sleep, no rest, not when it was obvious something was wrong somewhere. Nothing made sense to her, and right now, she had decided to take the bull by the horn. She sat at her vanity, with her legs crossed, deep in thought as she tapped her fingers slowly on the wooden surface before her. She had everything that transpired replayed in her mind, for clarity sake. From Elara's sudden pregnancy, to Alpha Ronan's react, and then again was the uncertainty from Jax. Everything was all shades of wrong in her eyes. And for Kira, she wasn't the one to easily accept loose ends. "She's obviously lying," Kira muttered to herself, as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. "All I need is to find a way and prove this." She smiled, and that's because she was confident that something would come out of her journey to find the truth. And that's because, once she succeeds, everything would eventually fall apart, and that's exactly what she longs for. The next morning, Kira didn't wait for the big sign. She started rather small. It was casual at first, unnoticeable, but she knew she was getting there. She had approached one of the members of the pack, the one she was sure often work night shifts, and at the location very close to the club district. "Hey," she started sweetly, carefully leaning against the counter for support. "I have quick question for you, please." The girl looked up, and with her facial expression, one could tell she was slightly nervous. "Kira...hi" Kira smiled, not because she wanted to, but anything to make the girl relaxed, and make her appear friendly, because she was desperately in need of her help. "I found out you were on duty a few weeks ago, right exactly the weekend of my birthday?" The girl nodded slowly, not even knowing what was coming for her. "Yeah...I think so." "Do you in anyway, recall seeing Elara that very night?" The was a little pause, then she replied.. "Yeah... actually," she girl started. "I saw her when she came in all alone, and also left drunk way too much." This made Kira's eyes budge out, but she held herself. "Alone?" "Yeah...she was alone...and also, she looked upset." Kira hummed, her thoughts going wild already. "Did you see her leave with anyone?" The girl frowned, trying to recall what actually happened that day. "I didn't see...I can remember her leaving in a car." Kira smiled at her. "Thank you " That was the first place she visited, the place her investigation started. Though it wasn't enough to give her what she wanted, but it was at least a start. Next, she moved to the cab driver. To Kira, she didn't care how long that was going to take her, she asked around, even went as far as slipping money where necessary just to get what she desired. At some places, she only needed to smile brightly, while others, threatening was required. And finally, she found one, who was a middle aged driver. "Yes, I was the one that picked her up," he said, roughly scratching his chin. "She was completely drunk, then before she passed out, she gave me an address." This got Kira's interest, as she quickly leaned in for more information. "What address are you talking about?" He told her everything, and in that moment, Kira went still, because, she recognized the house. It was the Blackwood estate. She could not control her emotions, as her heart continued uncontrollably. Slowly, a dangerous smile began to form at one corner of her lips. "No...no way." she whispered. But the more she thought hard about it, the more she didn't want to believe it. But it all made sense to her. It might be that Elara went there, and of course, in her vulnerable state, all alone. And on getting there, who did she see? Ronan? This made Kira to let out a laugh, a very soft one. It was low, disbelieving, and still excited. "Well...well..." Her eyes gleamed mysteriously, as to her, she was getting much closer to her truth than she ever imagined. "This is kind of getting too interesting." But she wasn't done with everything she needed. She needed to confirm her information were authentic, so as not to raise false alarm. To her, proof was the only thing that would make her findings undeniable. That very evening, she decided to return to the estate, where it all started. This time, she wasn't going there as a guest, but as a hunter of the truth. Her keen eyes scanned everything. From the guards, to the staff, the routine and everything. She found one of the housemaids, in the very back corridor. "You work here, am I right?" Kira asked her in a casual manner. The lady nodded to the harmless question. Kira smiled, hoping she would be as helpful as she figured her to be. "Tell me something...was Alpha Ronan the very night of my birthday?" The maid hesitated for a few seconds, maybe because it was a sensitive question, but on a second thought, she decided to reply. "Yes, ma'am. He didn't leave that night as was his routine." This made Kira's smile to become wider. She wasn't expecting it to be this easy. "And did you by any chance... notice someone visit him?" This earned another pause, and this time, longer than the first. The maid kind of looked unease releasing such vital information to an outsider. She was also scared she might lose her job, and her family in danger for tempering with the Alpha. Kira noticed her hesitation wasn't ordinary, so she moved a few steps closer, her voice dropping slightly. "I'm not here today to asked for gossip," she started smoothly. "I just need a simple answer." The maid bit her tongue, still contemplating on the right thing to do. "There was... someone," she admitted quietly. This maid Kira's heart to start pounding, as she didn't know what the answer would turn out to be. "Who?'
