Chapter 64 The signal

"Alpha, it has been confirmed that Elara was in Zir, she entered in the afternoon" Arnold, the beta said, entering the meeting room with his coat draped over his arm. "Zir? That's impossible! You know how nobody from my pack can enter there and nowhere from here can enter here. It's a known fact. How can you say such a thing" Ronan responded, raising his head from the daily newspaper he engaged himself in whenever he was bored. The glass sat at the edge of his long nose. His hair was sleeked to the back. Shining despite the darkness that has surrounded him. The steam from the coffee in the white mug soars towards the white bulb that illuminates the room. One choice of leg that Ronan crossed over each other and the coffee would pour on his white trouser. Arnold occupied the empty seat before him. His eyes are calculative of his next choice of words. "I'm afraid I speak nothing but the truth, alpha. I made my investigation and it turned out to be true. We don't know who helped her enter his territory, if she was smuggled in or something. What is clear is that Elara is in Zir" Arnold insisted, his blue eyes resting on the paper in Ronan's hand as he spoke to him. Ronan quickly closed the paper, folded it in unequal proportion and tossed it on the center table, aggressively. His jaw muscle tightened and became rigid. His eyes were darkened at the legitimacy of the sad news. Flexing his fingers, which made a still sound. "I will wait for their alpha to make necessary actions concerning it. If he doesn't acknowledge her presence then I know what to do" Ronan muttered, his throat was parched as he forced the words out. "what if it was an oversight and he does nothing about it because Elara adapted to the life there?" Arnold asked with doubt in his voice, careful not to gaze at Ronan's face. "Well, I will bring the oversight to his attention and let him address it as he should. We have sworn enmity to each other and nobody would break it. Not even Elara being the subject because she belongs here" Ronan dismissed his worries with a snap of his finger even though his body was telling another story. "What if Elara refuses to come back and seek protection from his wings?" Arnold's voice whispered above, afraid that his question might rile Ronan the most. "Did you plan this with her? Were you the one who smuggled her in because it's certain that she couldn't do that on her own. Unless someone helped her, she doesn't even have money on her. It would make sense if she helped her otherwise I see no reason why you should be doubting the process" Ronan answered, his cold eyes fixed on his beta. Watching him slowly. Even though Arnold has no reason to betray him, he still doubts his gut. He might collide with his wife to send Elara to the far end of the earth. She's capable of such. "I dare not involve myself in such activities, alpha. I know the consequences won't be palpable. I will leave you to retire to bed" Arnold responded, his voice higher than intended. He cringed at the defense in his voice as he stood up. Bowed his head and went out of the room quietly. Barely breathing. That psycho! What's the use of dragging me into his mess. Arnold thought, holding his chest as he engulfed a large amount of air at once. What he had for Ronan was beyond fear. It was the tread of what might befall on his family, if he takes the wrong steps mistakenly. His family will be mistakenly killed as well before he comes for his life. Shaking the thought that has started sprouting in his mind. He headed out to the left wing of the mansion for rest. Ronan set down the glasses from his eyes. He rubbed his eyes gently before stretching on the chair. He closed his eyes slowly, focusing on the forbidden bond he shared with Elara. Nothing. It was cold as the ground his feet were standing on. No sensation. It was long dead. Her energy wasn't connected. Frustrated, Ronan tried again. This time, he pictured her small face in his mind. It heightened his frustration when his face suddenly disappeared. The energy was strange and unfamiliar. He stood up quickly and left the room. The maids that saw him coming their way all turned aside, occupying themselves with a duty that was never there. Saving themselves from the wrath written with anger on his face. They quickly formed a gossip group when they were sure that he was out of sight. "Alpha has been acting weird lately, what's going on?" The shortest among them incited the conversation. Her eyes soiled with curiosity. "who knows? Shouldn't he be happy now that his daughter is in safe hands? But it was as though the tension keeps getting higher daily" another responded, clapping her hands as if dusting a substance off. "I heard that he killed a man when he was told of Elara's sudden disappearance. His heart was on the floor, beating I on the cold floor instead of his body" the third girl amidst them chipped in. "That's a lie" the two chorused at once, their mouths dropping in surprise. "I confirmed it because I was at the west wing when the incident happened. I saw them carrying a body out on the stretcher, covered with a white cloth" she continued, her voice thick with conviction that it left the other ladies no choice but to believe. "Don't you think our lives will be in danger if Elara is not found. Never have I heard of a father falling in love with his daughter's friend. Let alone an alpha" the short lady said, her eyes flickered with trepidation. "who knows if Selene fell sick because of the curse of their actions. The princess has been healthy all this while before they committed the act" the third lady said and they fell into silence. Trying to weigh the situation by what she just said.
