Elara's world is pinned tightly between what she heard and what her eyes witnessed. She leaned against the bathroom wall for support, afraid she might fall and be heard by Ronan. Her chocolate eyes grew dim with tears that refused to fall.
Her breath was ragged, it was as though the restroom was too cramped to accommodate her small frame. She dearly wished that the ground would open up and swallow her whole.
It would put an end to her constant nagging misery. For how long will Mira keep cussing at her at every slight opportunity her name comes up. Couldn't she see how much she was suffering for her actions already.
The way her life has changed overnight still stings her as repercussions have become the other of the day.
Her heart wrung with bitterness when she saw Ronan kissing Mira with so much possessiveness she wished she was the one in his arms. Jealousy clouded her mind as she shrank back into the corners. Hiding. She felt like she was intruding.
Selene just had her surgery and the next few minutes her parents were having a controversy because of her friend. Which other name does shame bears because that suits her pathetic self right now.
Even Ronan shared her forbidden interest, it was obvious that the larger part of him belongs to his wife. She wondered why they were separated in the first place if they loved each other immensely.
The couples left shortly hand in hand, Elora's heart winced in pain at the sight. Ronan was just a selfish person who used her to satisfy his raging appetite at the time.
Elora's strength completely denied her access to them, she was rooted to where she was leaning against until minutes later when the healer came rushing into the ward sweating profusely.
"Elora? Are you there?" the healer asked with panic in his voice. He was all over the place, lifting the pillow, bed covers and under the bed. Searching frantically for her like his life was on the line.
"I'm here" Elora managed to answer from the corner she was hiding, her voice barely above a whisper.
The healer rushed to her side, holding her hands to lift her back to her feet. Elora collapsed in his arms and he quickly carried her to the bed. The drip stand made it twice as hard for him to get to the bed.
"What's going on Elora, what were you thinking? You almost got a panic attack and terminated my contract. That button is for calling my attention when you need help" the healer chided her, pointing to the red switch beside the bedside.
Fresh tears fell from Elora's face, it flowed freely without a sob. It wasn't a shaky kind of tears. It was silent. With no effort.
"I'm so sorry for troubling you, can I go home tomorrow? You told me I will be fine by tomorrow right" Elora asked, wiping away the tears that had stained her cheeks.
Hope was the only escape she was holding on it.
"I can't discharge you without the alpha's consent. He's in charge of you. I will discuss it with him first" the healer explained with concern etched on his face.
"to hell with him. He's not my family member and no one important to me. I will get discharged when I want" Elora countered, her sad expression was quickly replaced with anger.
"Elora, you know better than anyone to go against the words of the alpha. No one survived the consequences" the healer said, his voice firm. His eyes lingered on Elora's face.
"can I be discharged if my mom comes? I'm sick and tired of the smell here. I want to go back home" Elora was having none of what the healer was saying. She wasn't going to spend one more day in this hell.
She's done and done.
"And you think, your mom has the guts to take you away from here without me consenting to it? You are literally asking for it" Ronan spoke before the healer could find the suitable response for her.
His jaw dropped in relief even though the alpha's word was like pouring gasoline into a burning fire.
The healer bowed and left not wanting to be the object of their exchange.
"What do you want from me? The child is gone, long gone. What else do you want from me? My life?" Elora asked, watching Ronan walk towards her with calculated steps that ignited an unknown fear within her.
She maintained her composure despite the storm arising in the bottom of her heart.
Ronan sat by the edge of the bed, his hand finding its way to her face, removing the strand of hair that had fallen out of her ponytail behind her ears.
His touch sent a terrifying shock of waves through her body against her own wish. Elora closed her eyes briefly to focus on the matter at hand.
"You are still grieving Elora. I understand your anger and it is normal. Asking for a discharge when you are not strong enough will cause harm to your body. You don't want me worrying about you and Selene at the same time right? It wouldn't be fair on me" Ronan hand dropped into her lap as he spoke, staring deep into those chocolate eyes of hers that did something he couldn't explain to his body.
Elora wasn't sure about what she felt at once. One minute she was boiling, ranting about how unfair it was that her life was ruined because of him. She was lost in his eyes, mesmerized by how oceanic his eyes were.
His voice was soothing more than the IV in her vein. She was brought back to reality when Ronan's lips touched hers and her eyes flared up in anger. Pushing him hard enough away from the bed.
Ronan stood up, his jaw clenched and unclenched by her sudden attack. He was offended. He's doing everything just fine to make her feel better.
"I don't want anything but freedom. We are no longer an item, your family is there and I will return to mine. You can go to hell for all I care" Elora screamed at his face when he made an attempt to touch her.
