Chapter 34 Who is She

997 Words
"Who is she?" Mira asked, her voice cold as ice. "Your husband's past." Kira said, as she moved to stand beside Lyra. Immediately, the murmurs became unbearable, everyone to their own opinion. "She's not just his past... she is almost his future." The Lyra in question, was standing there all smiles, with her arms folded. "I was supposed to be his mate, to be his Luna. That happened a while ago," she started casually. "Before I made a mistake that cost me that position." Alpha Ronan's voice dropped, as he tried to stop her. "This information is not relevant for this gathering." "Oh, it is," Kira cut in, earger to not leave any stone unturned. She turned to the crowd. "We need all the help we could get, all the information in detail. And this one is needed because Lyra was there. There was deadly silence as she said that. Then, Selene was the first to speak. "She was where?" She asked. Kira's eyes gleamed mysteriously. "She was there that night." At this point, Elara's breath hitched. She already know where the story was heading to, and what it would do to the mating ceremony, even her reputation. "The very night that Elara did her birthday, and got drunk," Kura narrated. "And somehow, instead of going straight to her house, she ended up at the Blackwood estate.' Selene's heart dropped, hoping the story isn't going towards the direction her head was telling her. "No..." She whispered to herself. Lyra nodded slightly, ready to complete the story. "I was there, in their house, before her arrival later on." Alpha Ronan's expression became hardened, but it was already late. "Stop this madness." But Kira ignored him. She didn't care that it was the Alpha, and she could be executed for disobeying. All she wanted was to achieve her aim, and after that, serve whatever punishment would be apportioned to her. "Lyra came to you that night," Kira continued. "To beg for another chance to reclaim her position." Lyra scoffed, the bitterness in her heart showing on her face. "He rejected me outrightly." At this point, Mira, Selene's mother, let out a bitter laugh. "Well, that's actually as expected." Lyra rolled her eyes, her dramatic self showing. "Please. Let's not focus on me entirely, and pretend you're any better than most of us that left." "Focus," Kira snapped, earger to release the bomb. Then, Lyra continued. "I stayed longer than I should have since he didn't want to do anything with me. I wasn't in a hurry to take my leave." Selene's voice started shaking, as she awaited the full story. "And?" Lyra glanced directly at Elara. "And then, she came in." At this point, the crowd held their breath, as anticipation ran through the hall. "Elara staggered in," Lyra illustrated dramatically. "She was drunk... emotional..and completely vulnerable." Elara's hands started shaking as she told her story. "I saw the way you stared at him, like he was an edible cookie," Lyra said, grinning wickedly. "And the way he also stared at you lustfully." Ronan could not take in again, as he cut in. "Enough!" But Kira wasn't done. She had already made up her mind to finish the story, come what may. Even the council of elders were interested, to hear the full story, making it difficult to lock her up immediately. This is because, even if he succeeds now, they would soon reopen the case to hear her out, so, he gave in. "Lyra didn't just see what transpired between the both of them," Kira said as she pulled out her phone from her bag. "She recorded everything that has that night." Immediately, there was a collective gasp that exploded the whole place. At this point, Elara knew her world had just shattered. Selene turned slowly to face her, eyes wide open, not believing a single word from Kira or Lyra's mouth. "What exactly did you just say?" She whispered, trying hard to get hold of herself. Kira smiled. Of course, it was a victorious smile. "I said..." She lifted the phone up for everyone to see. "There's proof of what transpired between your father, and your best friend, Elara." Everywhere became calm, the air heavy, suffocating, and choking. Selene could not breathe well again, despite them staying in an open space. It was like something was crushing her chest from inside. "No .." she tried to say. The word slipped out broken, her eyes barely open again. She glanced at Kira, to the phone in her hand, then to Elara, her best friend, someone she took as her sister from another mother. "This is a lie." Elara's lips parted to talk, but no words came out. Selene's voice started shaking. "You... didn't... didn't...do that... right?" But the question hung on the air, very fragile and desperate. Elara shook her head instinctively, but her body didn't cooperate, but betrayed her. Selene staggered back, as reality struck her. "Say something to me!" She screamed, hoping she would tell her all were lies, a conspiracy against her. "I..." Elara's voice broke, she couldn't even form a sentence. "I... Selene,I..." That was all it took, all that was required, and Selene burst into laughter. But it wasn't a normal laugh. It was very hollow, and sharp, unstable, as many things ran through her mind. "Wow .." she whispered, tears already gathering in her eyes. But she made no effort to wipe them off. "You slept...with...my father?" The word landed like thunder, very huge to be swallowed. "No .." Elara tried to sugarcoat, but she cut her in. "Don't!" Selene snapped with so much fury. Her voice started cracking, to the point she couldn't recognize her own voice. "Don't even make an attempt to twist this!" Her wolf became agited, just at the thought of her father and her best friend, hooking up amidst her parent's marital dispute. She was hurt. Very hurt. If anyone could do such, it shouldn't be Elara.
