Chapter 61 The new era

1065 Words
Elara finished her breakfast in one-go unapologetically, she didn't realize she was this famished until she tasted the burger. Surprisingly, it tasted like heaven for such an attractive bread. Her hand flew to her mouth, holding her lips tightly. Hoping that no one heard her thoughts. Unattractive bread? Elara really? Her wolf mocked. She rolled her eyes in response. She didn't bother taking off her hoodie cap from her head despite the heat that had settled on her back. This place was surprisingly warm compared to Fir, her pack. Her mind drifted to Ronan briefly, it made her brown eyes grow dull. Wondering what would happen once he finds out she is long gone. She wouldn't be surprised if he acted nonchalantly. What they had wasn't real to begin with. He just used her for his appetite. Bitterness gnawed at her stomach, which was once filled with sweet burgers minutes ago. Pushing her plate forward a little bit. Elara rested her head on the table. She was tired and sour. A big part of her wanted to return to Fir, but the rational part of her knew there's nothing there for her anymore. She succumbed to sleep before she knew it and nobody woke her. None of the customers acted rudely by bumping into her table which could have helped her. "ma'am, we are closed for the day" a young deep masculine voice ended the freedom she was enjoying before it could begin. Groaning in utter dissatisfaction, Elara raised her head. Rubbing her sleepy eyes so she could focus on the vision before her. Why is everywhere dark? She wondered, yawning. "You need to start going, we are closed for the day please" the guy repeated himself, waving his hand in her line of vision. 'You need to start going' jolted Elara back to face her reality. The sweet dream she was still savouring in her mouth as she tried to understand what the man was saying turned sour. Her mouth dropped and opened. Her eyes grew twice as big when she saw how dark it was outside the glassy door. Did she spend... Oh my god! Elara whispered. Her cheeks heated up in embarrassment for sleeping off in such an unusual place. Someone's restaurant at that. Hiding her face behind her palm, Elara groaned again. One that ripped through her bones as frustration overtook her. "Briel, I hope you are not disturbing my customer" a deeper and more trained voice asked. She jumped to her feet as the man walked in slow strides towards her table. It was then that she realized that the place was long empty of people and she might be the only one delaying them for wrapping up. "No, no, no. Not at all, he was disturbing me. I'm so sorry for sleeping off sir. I didn't mean to, I just needed to rest my head a little bit. It wasn't my plan" Elara rushed to say as the man stopped before her. "It's okay child, I could see that you needed the sleep. Sometimes it happens in the most unusual places and you can't cheat nature" the old man waved her concern aside. "I'm really sorry for the inconvenience I might have caused your sales today" Elara said once more, considering the number of customers that would have used her spot. If she hadn't spent all day dozing off. Did she snore loudly? She wondered in anxiety. Guilt gripped her heart and her eyes fell to the ground. "Do you have somewhere to spend the night? Or you have a family that will be here any moment from now?" Briel asked, his voice getting impatient. He probably would have been out by now, had it been she wasn't here. "Show some respect young man" the old man hit the back of his head slightly but Elara knew it must sting from the expression on his face. Looks like the longer she was delaying the more she was making him feel uncomfortable. The coldness in his eyes was enough warning that he clearly didn't like him. "I will find my way around, thank you for breakfast" Elara bowed her head in respect. She reached out to grab her bag which was on the sound when her stomach growled loudly. Reminding her that she hasn't had dinner yet. It was as if her stomach was an opportunist. Elara's hand froze in the air, her bag one meter away. Turning her head side in embarrassment, afraid of what she might see in Briel's face. Her hunched back didn't find the courage to straighten itself nor to move forward and grabbed her bag. "dinner will be in thirty minutes, come upstairs if you want some" the old man said, his voice was weird. Looking up, Elara saw that he was trying hard to not laugh at her face. Really??? Elara rolled her eyes as he walked away. Gathering the courage to look in Briel's direction, the young man chuckled. It was as if her eyes were tickling him as they met because he ended up laughing. It was a long torturous one that she had to endure. "Come with me, if you don't want everyone on the street to hear that. It's so embarrassing" Briel's voice was surprisingly warm as he invited her. As if he wasn't the one glaring at her a few minutes ago. Was it the correctional smack the old man gave him? Elara giggled as she picked her bag and walked behind him slowly. Doubting each step she took towards the stairs which was at the corner of the restaurant. She didn't notice it when she entered. What if's swarm her mind! What if they were stationed here by Ronan, knowing that somehow she would end up here. And they would take her back to him? Was that why she hadn't sensed his men around because she was already caught? What if these men are rapists and were just unnecessarily nice to her? What if she slept under their roof and never woke up again? What if they reported her to their alpha and she was killed as a sacrifice and they share her meat in their next meeting. "ouch" Elara bumped her head on Briel's back, who was waiting for the old man to open the door. It was as if she rammed her head into a rock.
