"I think.." Selene started, literally shaking, "maybe, it would be a good idea if you could give Elara a little time to..."
"No. That will never happen!" Liora cut in sharply, not even giving her the chance to finish. This made Elara to become nervous afresh again. Selene stayed silent, unable to complete what she had in mind.
Jax turned back to face her, his expression and voice softer this time. "I know this isn't how we planned things to go," he started, reaching out to hold her hand. She almost pulled away, because the whole thing was still new to her.
She allowed him lace his fingers with hers, but it took her a lot, as her skin was crawling because of the contact.
"But maybe, this might be our second chance," Jax continued, not even reading the room to see Elara wasn't interested in what he had to say. "A fresh start, for both of us, for our family."
Did he just say family? To Elara, it was more than punishment, as she was already suffocating. But what can she do? Nothing. She only had to nod to his speech, indulging him just like her mother would have wanted.
Later that evening, when the house finally grew quieter, as Jax had left, but promised to return to check on her the next day.
Liora had also gone to her own room, leaving her to wallow in the dead silence. It was only Selene that was still around, as she stood by the window, her arms crossed, as she stared at nothing outside.
"Elara..." She called softly, but Elara didn't look up.
"I'm okay," she replied in a murmur, more like she already knew what she has in mind.
This made Selene to turn to face her fully.
"No, you're not." And that truth, broke something in her. Elara's lips trembled as she tried to form the right words.
"I don't have any choice," she finally said with a breaking voice. Selene quickly walked over to her side.
"You always have a choice, don't you ever forget that," she told her gently. This made Elara to let out a hollow laugh, as she didn't believe even a word from what she had said.
"That may be before, not this time." Silence engulfed the room, as they both knew the truth; that nothing could be done at will then.
"I wish I could do something to help you," Selene admitted quietly after a few seconds of silence and deep thought. This made Elara to glance at her, a look of gratitude.
"I know." She said. And that was the worst part of her new nightmare. Selene truly cared for her, she knew deep down that Selene would fight anything for her...but she on the other hand hadn't been all transparent with her. If only she knew the truth, that she had broken their friendship code? But she didn't, and that kind of helped Elara to still breath, as she wouldn't add more fire by telling her the truth, though guilt was eating deep into get soul.
********************
That night, Elara couldn't sleep. She say at the edge of her bed, derp in thought, as her fingers gripped the sheets as though they were her only support. She hadn't slept a wink, as that was a luxury she couldn't afford.
In the midst of this storm, she couldn't stop thinking about him. Any time she closes her eyes, all she sees is him. Renon. Her wolf wouldn't let her rest, not even for a second. His voice kept ringing in her head, like he was close by.
Then, as she was still derp in thought, she heard a knock... It came out very soft and deliberate, making her heart to jump. Her senses sharpened, as she didn't need anyone to tell her who it was. She already recognized the person, as he wolf stirred in recognition.
"Open the door, Elara." His voice came out low, not the authoritative kind he uses while discharging his duty as the Alpha of the pack. Her fingers trembled, as she quickly stood. Selene had gone, and her mother, had stepped out before it became dark. She didn't care to ask her where she was going, as that was an opportunity to be all by herself, not having someone babysit her.
Elara hesitated to open the door, but that was just a second, as she found herself moving to open the door the next minute. When the door finally creaked open slowly, there he was, standing in the dim light coming from the hallway, with his talk, imposing presence. His Alpha aura was everywhere, to the point she couldn't talk well.
Their eyes locked instantly, the moment he stepped inside, and her throat went dry. It was intense, so searching that she almost lost herself in him.
"Elara," the name rolled off smoothly from his tongue, like that was where it was meant to be.
"Alpha Blackwood..." She called weakly.
"Don't..." The word came out too sharp, and final.
"Don't call me that," he finished, now smoother, and softer. "Not after that...that night together."
Fear rushed to her face, as her wolf stirred restlessly because of how close they were. It happened too fast, unapologetically, with an immerse hunger for each other.
Elara quickly stepped back instinctively, and creating a distance between them.
"You shouldn't be here in the first place," she whispered with all her energy. But Ronan worsen it, by stepping forward, closing the little distance that she created.
"I had come anyways." His voice was rough now, very unsteady in a way she had never heard from him. "My wolf had been restless, after that day," he continued. "Since the day you..."
He stopped, like he was hiding something from her. Elara's heart pounded loudly in her chest, in anticipation.
"Ronan.." she called softly, the name slipping out like he was her mate, before she could stop herself. That made his eyes darken instantly, more like his name on her lips did something to him. Something very dangerous.
"Say that again," he murmured, his voice very hoarse, and intoxicating. Elara swallowed hard, trying so hard to get hold of herself. She knew that they were just repeating history again. His eyes showed how much he craves her, to do unimaginable things to her, and the condition was for her to say his name, again.
