Chapter Four Alexia’s POV Today I resumed work, after what happened the last time I and Ken met I was nervous of meeting him at work again. “Clara!” I half yelled. She was still in bed and she asked me to wake her up early. “Ohhhh but it’s still early.” Clara mumbled as she stretched on the bed. I walked over to her and ripped the duvet off her. “Damn it Alexia!” She yelled. “Now go get ready for work, I’m leaving already.” I said. “But it’s just 7:00am.” She said, “You can sit back if you want to lose your job.” I said before taking my bag and I left. I got out and as usual Ken was supposed to drive by and pick me up since we stayed in the same neighbourhood. I decided to wait a little more for him so I stood outside for close to thirty minutes but still no sign of him. So I boarded a taxi to work. Few minutes later I arrived and paid the driver off while walking inside. Usually I wasn’t known in the office but today it seemed as though I was the topic of the company as everyone kept staring at me as I walked through to my office. I have had no friends here since I started working here barely two months ago. I kept my cool and ignored the stares as I walked to my office. I got inside and shut the door immediately while I sat down taking deep breaths. I looked around my office, my computer and bookshelves, nothing was there even my files and documents. Just then I heard footsteps approaching and the door opened and the manager walked in. “What did you do?” He asked me as he walked in. “What did I do? I didn’t do anything.” I replied. “I meant what did you do, like what did you do in a good way, the company has been sold to the top 1 richest young business man in town and in his speech he said we should thank you.” The manager said as he sat down and giggled like a baby. “So?” I asked, still not getting what he was trying to say. “Our salaries have been doubled two times what we get paid.” He said in excitement. “Wait what? Really?” I asked still in disbelief. “Well how did this happen?” I asked him as the excitement started building inside of me. “He didn’t say the only thing he said was “All thanks to Alexia Dankworth'' and he dropped the mic and left.” The manager explained. This was still kinda unbelievable, I felt the manager was playing pranks on me but since I’ve worked here, this man has never smiled at me. I even felt like he hated me and all of a sudden he’s here thanking me. “Can I see the picture of this mysterious billionaire?” I asked him. He brought out his phone and showed me a picture of a man. The picture was taken unaware I think by the media but the man still looked heavenly gorgeous. The face looked familiar but I couldn’t get a hint of where and when I’ve seen a face like that. Maybe it’s just my illusion. “Well that’s good news but I have a lot of work to do.” I said to the manager. “No you won’t be working here anymore, this man said to take good care of you so we signed your resignation papers before you arrived.” He said. “You what?” I couldn’t help but say out loud. What is he talking about? I don’t even know this person. How do I fend for myself without a job? I thought this was supposed to be good news? “Sir, I have no idea of the person you’re talking about. I haven't met him before.” I tried to explain. “Alexia, you should be grateful that he wants to keep a close eye on you by himself, you are such a lucky one,” he said and got up. I sat down still confused about everything going on. Who the f**k was this person and why would I have to quit my job because he says so. I grabbed my bag angrily while walking out. I wanted to find Ken. I know he was mad at me but he would have a better explanation for all this. I got to his office but I couldn’t find him. As though that wasn’t enough, the girls there wanted me to say smth to them. “Did you sleep with new boss” “Is he your boyfriend” “Are you guys married?” I walked out straight to the elevator in hasten footsteps. I got in and heaved a sigh of relief. I brought out my phone and dialled Ken’s number but it wasn’t connecting. The elevator finger open So I walked out ignoring the stares and whispers as I boarded a taxi home. The drive home I kept thinking what I did wrong to have lost my job. And how did the company got sold out overnight without informing any of us the workers. In a few minutes I arrived home. I noticed a black car following me all the way from work and it stopped when we stopped. At first I didn’t suspect anything but as I got home I noticed some strange faces of men in suits scattered along the road and the entrance to our house. “Did they come looking for one of our neighbours?” I couldn’t help but ask myself. I decided not to let that bother me knowing I had more things at hand to deal with. Ignoring their opposing and inconvenient aura I walked inside. I got inside the house and Clara was there watching a movie. “You came early.” She said, “And you didn’t leave for work.” I replied to her. I dropped my bag on the couch before slumping on it after taking off my heels. “I got fired.” I said. “What, why? I thought you took permission so you could get off work.” Clara said. “Well some Mr unknown bought our company and increased the salaries of everyone and for some reason singled me out and yeah fired me,” I started explaining . The thought of it makes me want to puke. I hoped I get a better job I thought.
