My eyes darted towards the woman who had entered the room with winter snow swirling around her skirt. As I looked at her, I couldn’t help but be struck by her beauty. She had a natural grace and elegance about her, an effortless poise that I couldn’t help but admire. Her long, flowing hair framed her face perfectly, highlighting her delicate features. Her eyes were bright and sparkling, full of life and intelligence. She took a seat opposite us on the other side of the room and gazed at Arden.
I couldn’t help but wonder who the woman was and what she was doing there. Her attire didn’t seem to fit in with her surroundings, and her gaze was fixed on Arden. Something about the way she looked at him made me uneasy, and a knot formed in my stomach.
“Who is she?” I whispered to Arden, my voice laced with concern.
“I don’t know,” he replied, his voice low and guarded.
A short while later, a young boy entered the room, accompanied by a woman He appeared to be around four or five years old and looked sad for some reason. However, when he caught sight of Arden, his face lit up with joy, and my heart warmed at the sight.
“Who’s that?” I asked Arden, nodding towards the boy.
“I’ll explain later,” he said, avoiding my gaze. I could sense the tension in his voice and knew that something was amiss.
I suddenly felt someone watching me and turned to see the woman staring at me with an intense gaze. It was as if she wanted to harm me, and a shiver ran down my spine. But before I could find out more, the prosecutor announced the arrival of the judge.
We all stood up as the judge entered and took her seat, perusing the papers in front of her. Arden and I engaged in a silent game of tug-of-war under the table as we sat back down. My mind was racing with questions and concerns.
Arden’s lawyer stepped up to the microphone and waited for the judge’s permission to speak. “You may proceed, Mr Michael Nuptial,” she said.
My heart sank for some reason, and I nudged Arden to get his attention. He had been staring at the young boy but turned to face me when I nudged him.
“Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…” he hushed me, but I couldn’t help but ask, “Who are that woman and that boy? Did you do something wrong to them?”
Before he could answer, his lawyer spoke up. “Your honor, my client Mr. Arden Grant is seeking full custody of his four-year-old son, Henry Grant. He believes that Miss Melisa is not capable of providing adequate care for their son.”
I was shocked to hear this revelation. Arden Grant had a son, and I had no idea. My mind was reeling as I tried to process this new information.
“Your son! You have a son?” I exclaimed in disbelief.
“I do,” he said quietly, his voice laced with sadness.
I turned to look at the woman again and suddenly realized who she must be. “She’s Arden’s wife… Oh my God! That’s why she was looking at me like that,” I thought to myself, feeling a pang of guilt.
“You have a son, and she’s your wife,” I said to Arden, still reeling from the shock.
“She’s not my wife,” he said firmly, his voice tinged with bitterness.
I couldn’t understand why I was so affected by this news. It wasn’t like I was his girlfriend or anything. Why did his personal life matter so much to me? A wave of confusion washed over me as I tried to make sense of my emotions.
“She is not my wife! Let’s make that clear!” Arden snapped, his eyes turning red with anger. He clenched his jaw tightly, looking like he was about to lose his temper. But he managed to control himself, taking a deep breath before continuing.
“So that means she must be his ex-wife,” I thought to myself. “No wonder she divorced him. Who would want to live with someone like him?” A feeling of sadness crept over me as I considered the situation of the little boy.
My thoughts were interrupted by the voice of his ex-wife’s lawyer. “Your honor, my client is being falsely accused. Miss Melisa is a successful entrepreneur who is financially stable and capable of providing a better future for Henry. Mr. Arden, on the other hand, is frequently seen with different women, and we have evidence to prove it.”
He handed a file to the prosecutor who passed it on to the judge. “This file shows how careless and irresponsible Mr. Arden is,” he continued. “He spends most of his time partying and clubbing and has shown little interest in being present in his son’s life. Mr. Arden is addicted to his luxurious bachelor lifestyle and is not capable of providing proper care for a child. He cannot give Henry the love of a mother. We request that Miss Melisa be granted custody of her son.”
“Objection!” Arden’s lawyer interjected, his voice firm and determined. “My client has been nothing but a devoted father to Henry.”
“Your honor,” Miss Melisa’s lawyer continued, his voice dripping with contempt. “The evidence speaks for itself.”
The judge looked between the two lawyers before speaking up, her voice calm and authoritative. “I will review the evidence presented before making a decision.”
Arden’s ex-wife’s lawyer handed a copy of the file to Arden’s lawyer, who opened it to reveal pictures of Arden with various models and celebrities, leaving clubs in a drunken state. These pictures made headlines in newspapers and news outlets, and I recognized a few of them. Was I surprised? Not in the least. I knew all too well what kind of man Arden was. Despite growing older, his bad habits remained unchanged. He was still the same arrogant, selfish bad boy that I had always known.
“Is this true?” I whispered to Arden.
He glanced at the file in front of him, and I could see the stress etched on his face. “It’s not what it looks like,” he said defensively.
His legal team began discussing the matter among themselves, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction at seeing him suffer.
Arden’s lawyer argued that the evidence was irrelevant to the case and requested that the court grant them a continuance to prepare their defense. However, his ex-wife’s lawyer was quick to object, insisting that a judgment be made today.
“Your honor, we need a decision today,” he said firmly.
The judge denied Arden’s lawyer’s request and announced that she would be making a decision on the case today. It seemed clear that Arden was going to lose, and I couldn’t help but mutter under my breath, “Only a miracle can save you now, Mr. Arden Grant.”
As the judge began writing something on her paper, I turned to look at Arden. He was staring at me intently, as if he could read my thoughts. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?” I asked defensively.
“Forgive me, but I have no other choice,” he said cryptically.
Before I could ask him what he meant, he suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. All eyes in the room turned towards us as I smiled awkwardly and asked him what he was doing. He remained silent and motionless until the judge spoke up.
“Mr. Grant, do you have something to say?” she asked.
Arden cleared his throat before speaking. “Your honor, Miss Melisa has accused me of being an unfit father and claimed that I cannot provide my son with the love of a mother. But this is not true. I am doing everything in my power to give my son everything he deserves. I am trying to be a better person. Nobody is perfect from birth. I deserve a chance.”
“Mr. Arden is speaking from emotion,” his ex-wife’s lawyer interjected. “We have provided evidence to the court that Mr. Arden is not fit to be the guardian of his son. The boy needs the love and care of his mother.”
“You are right, Mr. Cooper,” Arden said calmly. “My son does need the love of a mother. That is why I have brought my fiancée to court today.”
I was taken aback by this revelation. Arden had a fiancée? And where was she? I hadn’t seen her.
He turned towards me with a nonchalant expression on his face.
“I would like to introduce everyone to Miss Lyra Pinter,” he said, gesturing towards me as he pulled me closer to him. “My....
