‘This one’s Rover, this one’s Benny, and this one’s Princess Margaret,’ Sally said, pointing out the three dogs. At the chuckles of laughter, she added, ‘Every year, we have a naming competition for the newest puppies. You get some old faithful, and a few surprises.’
‘That one over there is Trafford,’ Emma pointed out. ‘Named after Lancashire’s cricket ground. No idea how that slipped through the filter, but after a couple of seasons, it feels natural.’
Trafford gave a delighted bark as though to agree, then sat back on his haunches, his tongue lolling.
