Sanlysia had not even at slightest liked her mother or Edgard treating her the way they were. She always strived to be worthy of her title. For her being a princess had a different definition than the world had implied it to be. She had met princesses all over the kingdom, they had their pretty dresses and skills at knitting or designing embroidery. Sanlysia had never consider this as a definition of the princess. She wanted to be brave and fierce to protect her kingdom. She believed in standing up with her people leading them to the glory just as her father once did.
The questions about her father always bothered her. The way Edgard is had become. She doesn’t see that Edgard from the ballads of the bards. But she believed that one day Edgard would be proud of her. Little she knew that the fate had something else destines for her. And her actual father is already proud of her.
‘Mother, did you know last night I found our sister tied up and in the dust crawling with the pests?’ Aeron commented.
‘Where were you when we had an intrusion?’ Sanlysia rose to her feet violently, ‘hiding in your mother’s arms sucking from her breats?’
‘Sanlysia, you are becoming arrogant and seem to have forgetting the manners.’ Pysenia pointed.
‘Why does it always had to be?’ Sanlysia yelled, ‘what does he do?’
‘I don’t get defeated by poorly trained savages, sister. I have defeated the knights of Halem in the battle.’ Aeron mocked.
‘Which knights, huh? The ones who follow you around like pups wagging their tales?’ Sanlysia spat.
‘Enough sister, at least I don’t go goofing around with the stable girls like you and the stable boy in the…,’
Sanlysia grabbed Aeron’s cloak and twirled him around so that her dagger pointing his throat, ‘…complete that sentence brother and I won’t hesitate to stick this inside your pretty neck.’
‘Enough you both.’ Pysenia snatched the dagger from Sanlysia’s hands, ‘… prince off you go.’
The thing which dreaded Pysenia most was Sanlysia's detest towards her brother. She prayed all day and night to keep her both children from slaughtering each other.
‘How does it feel getting beaten by a princess, your highness.’ Sanlysia teased.
Aeron’s face flushed embarrassment and his eyes glared furiously at Sanlysia, ‘see you sister.’ He mumbled and fled.
‘You need to train baby boy. And then come back to fight.’ Sanlysia shouted at him.
‘Why would you do that?’ Pysenia demanded.
‘He has no right to decide whom I befriend.’ Sanlysia said.
‘I am sorry for what happen with your little friend. But…’
‘But what, mother?’ Sanlysia said impatiently, ‘… he didn’t deserve that he was just a poor boy.’
‘You are a princess…,’
‘And that doesn’t take my freedom away. I can live my life the way I want to.’ Sanlysia completed her mother’s sentence.
‘Remember he is your little brother. Do not ever draw your sword at him.’ Pysenia was afraid and Sanlysia can see it clearly in her eyes.
‘It is not like I am really going to kill him. Although I imagine doing that, often.’ Sanlysia giggled throwing her arms around Pysenia and kissing her on the cheek.
‘Don’t even think of it my dove. There are people, even gods who would not like to see you getting along. You are family you should be together and you should be strong, there are threats from everywhere. Last night was something of a lesson.’ Pysenia gently rubbed her daughter’s cheek.
‘Mother, there is something about last night.’ Sanlysia said.
Pysenia’s mouth had become dry even after all the wine she’d just drank. She feared for Sanlysia had found the truth about her father? Pysenia had no certainty if Sanlysia would stay or leave when she would learn the truth? The Edgard treated her Pysenia got even more anxious. She had notice all of Alistair’s qualities in Sanlysia, his anger and his gallantry. His pride and his self-admirability, every word Sanlysia uttered had a tinge of Alistair to it.
Physically Sanlysia had every grace that Pysenia did, even graceful than Pysenia. The moment will come when she will learn the truth and she will certainly choose Alistair. Sanlysia will leave Edgard and the palace and Pysenia when she learns the truth.
Pysenia just hoped that last night she didn’t see Alistair. After sending lady Tysenia with the parchment, Pysenia had regretted it. She wanted to call Tysenia back but it was too late she had already away.
Edgard would use Sanlysia as a pawn in his play. He had compelled Pysenia to never tell Sanlysia about her real father if she wanted to keep her daughter. Edgard had some different plans, he wanted to use Sanlysia against Alistair. Poor Pysenia couldn’t choose sides so she preferred to stay by her children.
. Edgard had hemmed himself in the walls of relentless grief of having his firstborn with a peasant girl. He knew Aeron couldn’t inherit the throne.
Pysenia very carefully asked, ‘what happened?’
Sanlysia hesitated at the beginning but then asked, ‘who is sir Alistair of Bustia?’
The question hit Pysenia like the bricks popping out of the palace walls and hitting at Pysenia all at once. So, she met Alistair. Pysenia thought. She didn’t what to answer or neither she wanted to ward off this question.
Sanlysia's words choked her.
