What did Hugo want? Did he expect her to kneel and kowtow in apology? To express her gratitude through subservience?
Cora, finally grasping the situation from their exchange, looked at Hugo incredulously. "You broke your bone saving her?"
Before Hugo could respond, Cora erupted in furious accusations. "A treacherous, lying woman like her... how could she be worth saving?"
