Chapter Two: Letter

1128 Words
6 Years Later I lean over my bathroom sink and splash cold water on my face and sigh. I put my hands on the counter and stretch my neck. I look in the mirror and see my bright red face. "Jesus Christ." I say, exhausted. Of course, the AC breaks on one of the hottest days of the year. I let out another sigh as I continue to look at myself in the mirror. I lower my eyes and look at my neck, then chest. I look at the large claw mark that starts at my neck, but gets cut off by my tank top. I touch my lower side where the scar ends. I look down as I remember what happened 6 years ago. 6 years today exactly. f**k. That's why he was all depressed last night. I look at the scar in the mirror, and trace it with my fingers, stopping when I hit my tank top. I jump when I hear a knock on my door. I walk to my door and open it. Sasha stands there annoyed. "Can you get Adrian up? I'm done." I groan in frustration. "He's not up yet!" She shakes her head. "The repairman's here for the AC, and I can't deal with it." I sigh. "I got it." She nods and walks away. I shake my head as I leave my room and head for Adrian's. I open the door and I'm immediately hit with the stench of alcohol and sweat. I gag as I walk towards his bed, and see him passed out. I shake my head as I try to shake him awake. "Adrian! Wakey wake!" I shout. He doesn't move, and I groan in frustration. I leave his room and head for the kitchen. I grab a bucket from the cupboard and start to fill it in the sink. I go to the freezer and grab a bag of ice. I dump it in the bucket and throw away the empty bag. As soon as the bucket is filled, I turn off the water, and I head to Adrain's room. I stand over him as he starts to snore loudly. I shake my head and groan angrily. I hold up the bucket of ice water, and dump it on him. He jumps out of bed like a scared cat shouting gibberish. I shake my head as he shakes the water off of himself. "What the actual f**k Ang!" He shouts angrily. I grab my phone from my pocket and look at the time. "It's past noon, and you got things to do. The repair men are here for the air conditioning, and you got paperwork to get done. And for Christ's sake! Open a fucken window! It fuckin stinks!" I say pissed off. He opens his mouth to say something, but notices my scar. He looks down. "Just give me 10 minutes." "I'll be in the office." I say as I leave. I caress the scar as I walk to my room. I can hear air blowing through the vents as I walk to my room. I stop and put my barefoot over a vent, and feel cold air. I sigh in relief. I continue to my room and walk in. I grab a change of clothes and take a nice cold shower. I get out of the shower and change. I walk out of my bathroom and can already feel a change in temperature. I let out another sigh of relief. I head for the office and see the repairman standing by the door. I walk up to him. " Have you been waiting a long?" He shakes his head. "No Ma'am." "What do I need to sign?" I sign for everything and send him on his way. I head into the office and start organizing the papers. Adrian soon stumbles in rubbing his head. I open a drawer and pull out a bottle of pills and put it on his desk. He lets out a long sigh as he sits down. He grabs the bottle and takes 2 pills. I place a pile of papers in front of him. "You just need to sign these." Before I could move my arm away, he grabs it. "I-I'm sorry." I sigh and shake my head. "Your "I'm sorry" isn't doing anything anymore. You need to do better. Your dad gave you an out, but you chose to accept to be the alpha. You're making this pack look like a joke. You need to get your s**t together before the pack kicks you out." "I'll try." "NO! YOU WILL! YOU GOT ME!" I shout angrily. "Y-YES!" I shake my head. I continue to go through the piles of paperwork. "Why'd you give me this?" He asks, slightly annoyed. "Hmm?" I say as I look at the letter he hands me. I look at the letter. "The Lonecrest pack? Why does that sound familiar?" Adrian shrugs. "I don't know." I read the letter and just stare at it. Xander Cross... Xander. "Ang?" I look at Adrian. "What?" He look at the letter. "You gonna throw it out." "I think we should allow them to come." He scoffs. "Why?" "Cause we need to start fixing relationships that you've neglected." "We don't even have a relationship with them." He says, annoyed. I slam my hand on the table. "You need to do something!" "Not them." He says as he grabs the letter from my hand. "We'll start with a pack we know first, then start new." I scoff and shake my head. He crumples up the paper and throws it in the trash. After awhile, he leans back in his chair and sighs. He looks at his phone. "I'm gonna get something to eat, you coming?" I nod. "Yea. I just got a few more to organize and I'll head over." He stands up. "I'll get you a plate." "Okay." He leaves the room, and I finish organizing the papers after a few minutes. I go to leave the office, but stop at the doorway. I look back at the trashcan. I contemplate for a minute, before I walk to it, and start looking for the letter. I find it and read it again. I shake my head as I put the letter down on his desk. I grab a blank piece of paper and start to quickly write a reply. I get it ready to send out, and put it in the mail out pile. I pray that no one notices. I head for the door, but bump into Adrain coming in. "Oh, sorry. Just finished up." I say kinda nervous. "It's fine. Your plates in the microwave." "Okay." I quickly walk past him, and head for the kitchen.
