Soren read the letter first. He picked it up with careful, deliberate fingers, read it once completely without expression, then set it down and pushed it toward Cael without a word.
Cael read it standing. Wolves rarely sat when something made them want to pace. Mara watched his jaw tighten, watched his eyes move across the page twice, watched something shift behind his storm-grey eyes that looked uncomfortably close to guilt.
He set it down without speaking.
The three of them sat in silence after. The kind of silence that had weight and texture and pressed against the walls of the small kitchen like it was searching for a way out.
"You knew," Mara said finally. Not a question. "Both of you. You knew what I was before you ever came to me."
Neither of them denied it.
"How long?"
"Three weeks," Cael said quietly. "The pack's tracking arrays detected a dormant Duskborn signal on the border. We didn't know it was you specifically until the blood moon activated it."
"Two weeks," Soren said. "The coven identified your grandmother's bloodline in Ashenveil decades ago. We have been monitoring your family line since before you were born."
Mara stared at him for a long moment.
"Before I was born," she repeated slowly.
"Yes."
That single word landed in the kitchen like something dropped from a great height. Mara stood slowly, walked to the window, and looked out at her grandmother's roses still dying quietly in the morning light.
"Get out," she said softly. "Both of you. Right now."
They left without arguing.
The kitchen felt enormous without them. And somehow, for the first time since the blood moon, completely safe.
