Chapter 3 Alpha Nero swore he heard Ciora's voice. But the call had went dead the moment he tried to confirm it. He tried calling again but the line was no longer reachable. He called for his beta, Michael and gave him the number that had contacted him. "Find out who it was that called me." “Yes, Alpha." Michael took the phone and turned to leave but remembered he had a message to pass to Alpha Nero. “Alpha, your daughter has returned from school. But she didn't come home with a familiar pet. The school was requesting for your presence, as most alpha pups were able to get their familiars," Micheal informed him before he left the office. Alpha Nero took note and acted like he heard nothing. Recently, he has been suspecting Henrietta. She had become his Luna but most of her affairs were shady. From the reports he got she secretly left the pack house without his permission. Her account records showed high withdrawals yet the money wasn't put into anything except clothes, shoes, bags and jewelries. The door to his study creaked open and Lilith rushed in excitedly with Henrietta following her behind. "Daddy, guess what?" She beamed up at her father. Alpha Nero's features softened as he lifted her onto his lap. “What is it, my sweetheart?" He asked with a calm-loving voice. “I got my familiar pet today. But it's a frog." she pouted as she brought out the animal from her backpack. Alpha Nero glanced at Henrietta, one on his brows raised in question. He knew that the frog was one of Henrietta's schemes and not a familiar pet. Disappointed, he put Lilith down on the floor and faced Henrietta. "A frog? You should do better than this." He referred to Henrietta but Lilith mistook his words for her. She ran out of his office crying. "Really? Did you have to be harsh with her?" Henrietta argued, tossing her hands in the air. “Do I look like a fool to you? A frog from an animal shop. Do you even know what a familiar pet is? Oh, I forgot, you don't possess one since you are a halfling," he grumbled cynically. Henrietta jolted, shocked that he knew that it was an ordinary frog. She blinked repeatedly, looking for a quick lie to cover up her mistake. "Lilith was upset. I needed to calm her down," she mumbled quietly. “Then teach her to be useful!" Alpha Nero slammed his fist on his desk making her flinched. “Get out," he ordered. Her face flushed red from the humiliation. Pained by his harsh attitude, Henrietta briskly walked out of the room. But before she could close the door, Micheal brushed passed her without an excuse. “Alpha, I was able to locate the number that came. It was a kid's line. The location shows East valley pack," Micheal said, as he shut the door in Henrietta's face. Henrietta scoffed, stomping her heel hard on the marble floor. Michael never liked her nor did he respect her. If she wasn't the Alpha's Luna, he would have banned her from entering the Alpha's estate. He made sure she had left the corridor before he continued with what he was saying. "Alpha, the disease rate has increased and the war at the boarder has increased. We are losing more men day by day. Also, the number that connected you was traced to Infinity corporation," he stated, placing every document containing each matter on his desk. “Infinity Corp? Isn't that the healer's estate?" Alpha Nero inquired. “Absolutely. It seems like she has decided to help us after many emails sent." "This is good news." Alpha Nero jumped to his feet. Pacing back and forth in excitement. “Micheal,do everything possible to make her consent to our request. Reach out to her secretary, close relatives whoever it is you can get your hands on. We have to get her attention at all cost," he said, snapping his fingers in delight. Getting the healer meant he would be able to treat the pack members infected with the disease. Little did he know the woman he was talking about was Ciora Bemount. The same woman he had banished from his pack, his ex-wife. In the evening, at the dining table. Alpha Nero decided to inform his mother of the good news. But the table was gloomy and he was too dense to notice the negative atmosphere. "Mom," he called out. The Queen Luna, Celeste dropped her cutlery hard on the ceramic plate, it cracked on the side. “What is the fuss about? I heard you yelled at Lilith and Henrietta today at your study. Did you have to be so harsh on the child?" Celeste tabled the matter and the excitement on Alpha Nero's face fell. “Did she tell you what she did? I won't tolerate such deceit, mother," he grumbled, his voice raised and hoarse. “She is still a child. Some day she will be able to take her own familiar pet. You should be more gentle with her," Celeste argued. Seeing the argument would go sour than she planned, Henrietta decided to chip in. "No, it's my fault, mother. I am too soft with Lilith. I spoil her so much and that made her relax about the familiar test," Henrietta muttered, patting her daughter's head. Lilith pouted about to cry from the heated argument. “It's not your fault, my dear. Your daughter deserves all the love and that includes her father's," Celeste added, taking her side. Had a enough of their nonsense, Alpha Nero pushed his chair hard, it scrapped the floor and fell hard on the floor. “No one is allowed into my quarters tonight including, you mother," he said over his shoulder before leaving the dining room. Henrietta bit her bottom lip, pissed by his attitude. She thought involving Celeste would calm things down but Alpha Nero was adamant about his decision. After dinner, Henrietta dragged Lilith into her room and shut the door. "You useless bump! Did I tell you to pacify your father? What use are you if you can't win his trust!" She screamed at the little girl. Frightened, she began to cry. Henrietta raised her hand and smacked her hard on the cheek. “Shut up! You don't deserve to shed a tear!" She yelled. Lilith cried harder, "Forgive me, Mom. I won't do it again. It's all my fault. Please forgive me." “Reflect on yourself until you realize your sins. No food for you tomorrow and next. You disgust me." Henrietta spat at her daughter as she shoved her to the floor before exiting the room. Lilith sat on the floor crying bitterly alone in the dark room. No one would be able to hear her since Henrietta had fortified the room for the outside to prevent sounds within from being heard. She wailed all night until she fell asleep on the cold floor. The next morning, Alpha Nero went to Lilith's room. He had felt a bit bad that she was between the cross fire. When he knocked on the door, he got no response. He knocked again, no sound. He became worried and began to call out her name. He twisted the doorknob and broke the door. Inside, he searched the room for his daughter. He was getting agitated when he heard the bathroom door creak open. "Daddy?" Lilith wobbled out fresh from the shower. "Where is your Mom? Isn't she supposed to be the one preparing you for school?" He frowned and Lilith flinched. Her eyes shook sideways afraid that telling her father the truth would making her mom angry. "I told her not to. I am a big girl now, Daddy. Kids in my class no longer need their mom's to prepare them for school," she said, her voice soft and tiny. Alpha Nero sensed her discomfort and didn't push further. He would confront Henrietta later. Since he was there, he helped Lilith prepare for school and decided to drop her off as well. At the school gate, Alpha Nero and Lilith got down from the car about to enter the school compound when a white BMW arrived. "The Quads are here!" The kids at the gate squealed. Lilith rolled her eyes and tugged her Dad to keep moving. “What's that?" Alpha Nero asked when he noticed his daughter's mood change. "Nothing, just a bunch of bullies." "Bullies?" Alpha Nero raised his brow in dismay. “Don't worry, Daddy. There is nothing your big girl can't handle." Lilith beamed and urged him to take her inside. Alpha Nero reluctantly left the matter and went in. The Quads stepped out of their mom's car majestically, announcing their presence effortlessly. "Mommy, you can leave the rest to us. Goodbye," Riley said. He didn't want his Mommy to come down from the car not when they had seen their daddy going into the school compound. Ciora didn't push any further and let them go in. But after her kids went in, she checked the security camera and rushed out of the car when she saw who had went in.
