If anyone had told me such a thing would happen, I would have totally denied it. I stood in shock, unable to believe what was going on.
I was dumbfounded that I found no words to say. Slowly, I raised my head to look at Father. I could not believe what was going on.
Father had…. Betrothed me to …. Another man? As a gift? Was that all I was to him?
“This is…..” Father started. “This is the person I have always wanted to tell you about, Eamon.” Father finally added. “His name is Lukan.”
“I do not care whatever his name is.” Eamon responded, a frown etched to his face. “Who is he and what is he talking about?”
Everyone stood in shock as no one could ever imagine. He claimed the new man who introduced himself to be Lukan, had helped him win a battle a couple of years ago and as a result, he had promised to give me whatever he wanted.
Lukan as well, had gone on to ask for my hands in marriage when I turned eighteen and father….. had agreed.
“We could tear her limb by limb and we can take half of her each.” Lukan suggested with a smile etched to his face and I gasped. How could he be so cruel? I shook my head and stood up from where I sat.
“I warned you about this!” Mother threw her arms in the air, quite alarmed.
“How dare you, Raymond.” Eamon started, to my father. “How dare you do this to me? How dare you betray me?!” Eamon questioned and I trembled with fear.
“I leave with the girl.” Lukan insisted.
“I am not letting anyone take my woman.” Eamon responded, not sparing Lukan a glance but I knew he was the one he was talking to.
My heart was racing so hard. The duo turned to each other, arguing with my father in their midst. I saw it as an opportunity to escape and I took it immediately. I did not care whatever they did to my father. He was their responsibility hence I walked away from their midst.
“Mara!” Mother yelled out at me, drawing all of their attention to me and just before they could get towards me, I jumped off the window. I had jumped before I realized what I was doing. I knew I had my chance as I ran to the ocean behind our home.
“Don’t you dare come near me!” I yelled out at them all, including the guards who had tried to stop me. I was so close to the ocean.
“What are you doing, child?!” Mother cried. “What are you doing? Come to me, I am your mother!”. She cried out to me.
“Do not be silly, child. You cannot try to take your life. Come here.” Father yelled. I could see the fear in his eyes. The two 'suitors' stood behind me, waiting to see what would happen.
“Call the deal off with these men or I die.” I threatened. I didn’t know what I was doing but somehow I believe I was going to let it play out the way it wanted. That was the only chance I could get.
“We can talk about these, Mara. We can talk about it. “ He responded.
“Tell them now that you retract your words and do not want to give me to them anymore. They could take something else!” I yelled at him.
“We had an agreement and I am not one to change my words. I cannot go back on my words!” Father insisted. My heart shattered that Father would choose the pack over me. Over my life.
“Be prepared to lose your daughter then.” I responded and tried to take a step backward but, my leg slipped and….
“Mara!” Mother screamed and that was all I heard before I realized I was falling off and…. I slipped into unconsciousness.

I woke up to an unfamiliar room, causing me to stand up briskly, looking around. I remembered falling off that cliff. Did I…. Not die?
I stood up immediately, feeling no pain whatsoever which was quite bizarre to me. Of course, mother had told me about young people who died and were given another chance by the moon goddess to live again.
I had often discarded it and made her understand it was nothing but imaginary thoughts of people who had nothing to do and then, decided to formulate such. I never imagined it would happen to me.
Just then, a young lady whom I have no idea of walked into the room, her head bowed. The moment she saw me, her eyes widened and she walked out immediately, slamming the door shut.
“Wait!” I tried to stop her , to at least inquire what was going on but it was too late as she banged the door shut like she had seen a ghost.
I tried all I could to open the door but it was locked from without. Was this the moon goddess abode? I let out a sigh and wandered off to the bed again.
Letting out a sigh, I walked to the window of the room. There were a couple of men out there and from the ensemble they had on, I could tell there were soldiers from….another pack?
Had I re incarnated in another pack? I had a gazillion thoughts running through my mind yet I could not figure it all out. I knew I had to find out where I was so as to know what I could do.
Again, the door squeaked open and three maids, walked in, their heads bowed as though they were asked not to look at me.
Each of them had bathing equipment with them.
“Where am I? Where is this? What pack is this?” I questioned, searching their eyes as I raised their head to look at mine even though they tried not to look at me.
I have studied maps for years and I could name a pack when I saw their ensemble but this one was…. Different.
“Our Lord has ordered we bath you.” The maids spoke. Something just seemed off. Their Lord? Who was their Lord?
“it is great to see you once again, milady.” A familiar voice called and I turned in shock to confirm my thoughts. I pinched myself to be sure I was not dreaming and… no, I wasn’t.
