Phone Call

1450 Words
Roman snatches his phone for the third time as Guen ends the call with Ethan. She somehow manages to press the end button before Roman gets his phone, so when Roman puts the phone to his ear, there's no one answers it. "Ethan?" Roman wants to call Ethan again, but Guen locks Roman's phone screen, snatches it again from him, and places it on the table. "He's not in a good mood, but thankfully he's with his friends. You don't have to worry." Roman could finally follow her. He then took his book. "When will I be able to contact him then?" At first, Guen wanted to curse Roman because he asked that question, but after thinking about it, Guen had previously told him to call Ethan when he didn't want to and instead forbade Roman when he tried to call Ethan. So Guen swallowed all his sentences. "If he has contacted you, it means he is ready to talk to you. At that time, whatever things you do, you have to reply, even in the middle of a meeting, understand?" Roman nods his head, even though he can't actually do it, especially replying to someone's text in the middle of a meeting. "But Roman," said Guen, making Roman, who had just wanted to read the first sentence of his book, look back at Guen. "What's wrong?" "There's something strange about Ethan, you know, he's not like he's being spoiled to get your attention," Guen said as she crossed his legs and leaned her back against the back of the chair. "So he was just trying to get my attention?" Guen sighed. "I understand he was sad to see you called Ane, but he doesn't need to disappear, right? Moreover, he said that he shouldn't feel that way. I mean, I wonder why he said he shouldn't feel that way." Roman shrugged his shoulders. "Actually, I also did it to Ane, especially when I was busy. I would immediately turn off the phone without hearing what she wanted to say." "Yeah, you're right." Roman lowered his head. He started to read his book while Guen stared at the stairs because people began to arrive and fill the other tables. The sound of chattering began to be heard from all directions. Until finally, Guen looked back at Roman. "You know, I have a feeling that maybe he knows something we don't." His eyebrows squished together, while Guen immediately rolled his eyes. "You'd better not pretend you don't know about it." "Guen, please, I know nothing." Roman was lucky today because there was nothing around Guen that she could use to hit that old man. Instead, Guen clenched her jaw. "Have you forgotten how your unconscious wife came home?" Roman was silent for a while. He sighed while holding his head up. "Yeah, Ethan took her home." "And I'm pretty sure you didn't ask Ethan anything. Where did he meet Ane? Or when did he meet Ane? Did Ane see Ethan before she was unconscious, or did she not know about Ethan's whereabouts because Ethan found her when she was unconscious? Or maybe ask him about what she does when he finds out?" "Wait, Guen, let me explain." Gun nodded his head. "It's okay. I would freak out if you already asked Ethan about that," said Guen, laughing sarcastically. Guen then stood up. "You know Roman, because of that, I can argue that Ethan must know about something we don't know cause he's the one who found her, and he might find something other than she being drunk with her friends." Guen left Roman without seeing what that old man did next. *** Ethan didn't contact Roman until Sunday morning, even when Roman arrived at the Early rise coffee bar at one o'clock in the afternoon, where the exhibition had been going on for two hours. Roman also asked Liana because he had promised Liana that he would go with her today. However, Liana told her father that Ethan had canceled their plan. The second thing Roman tried was to look in the window where he usually peeked. Yes, Roman knows Ethan's always peeking at them from the window every time they want to go to work. So, before leaving, Roman looked up at the window for a while before finally getting into his car because he couldn't find anything there. Then he decided to leave his house. "Looks like he's not ready to meet you yet," said Guen, patting Roman's shoulder while Roman just stood where he was. He was confused about what to do, so he decided to walk alone through the rows of paintings on display while sipping his coffee. According to Roman, some of the paintings are impressive, but others are ordinary, and he was amazed by an art print with a holographic concept; because you can see different pictures in one frame, it's impressive! And there's another one. A painting of a person's face is divided into three parts, but the parts are placed randomly. The mouth is the first part, the eyes in the middle, and the nose at the bottom. Unique and strange at the same time. And several other paintings caught his attention, such as abstract paintings, mountains with the sky filled with sophisticated planes, even glass with dramatic shadows. Roman has only seen half of all the paintings because he spends a lot of time looking at each painting before expressing his opinion. Roman doesn't want to talk nonsense about art, so he spends quite a lot of time looking at each painting. At that moment, Guen called out to him from behind. Who would have thought someone was standing with her, someone Roman thought did not reveal himself. Ethan. He stood there hesitantly. It made Roman also hesitate to walk closer. But when Ethan glanced at Guen, and Guen pointed at Roman with a smile on his head, Ethan finally stepped in. Ethan's first step made Roman immediately rush over to Ethan. "Feeling better?" asked Roman. Ethan smiled slightly as he nodded his head. "It's good then." Guen smiled at both of them. His smile then turned into a smirk, and finally, he pushed Roman's shoulder, mocking him, before finally leaving them without a word. Roman pulls Ethan closer to a painting of a child's toy with merriment colors. "Are you okay? Want to go home?" Ethan drew closer until their toes touched, then he grabbed the black T-shirt Roman was wearing. "I wanted to see you." Roman smiled as he looked around. There weren't many visitors in this hallway. Most of them are busy chatting while staring at a painting. "We can meet somewhere, you know, or you can just go to my house." Ethan nodded, wiping his eyes. But then Roman pulled Ethan into his arms suddenly. Roman even stroked Ethan's hair. "It's okay if you feel that. She and I are often like that. In fact, I do it more often," said Roman, laughing and rubbing his face into Ethan's hair. "We are like friends because I also consider her my friend." Ethan nodded and finally returned Roman's hug. "No, she should be able to treat you better." Roman shook his head. "It's okay, we're fine. You don't have to worry." "Why does she call you when she only says a few sentences? You can send text messages." "But I rarely check my phone." "Still, if you call someone, it's a sign that you will have a lot to talk about with them, and it will be an annoyance if you have to type them." Roman let go of his hug, then saw Ethan raise his head with wrinkled brows. Roman laughed. "Then, should we make a long phone call?" Ethan was silent before finally pushing Roman gently. Roman was holding Ethan's hand while laughing. "That's not what I mean. I'm talking about her, you know. She should be able to treat you better." Roman nodded. "Actually, nothing happened between us, but," he said, then turned and walked to the next painting. "If you don't want to make a phone call with me, you can just say so." "You are such an annoying old man! I wanted to call you, you know, it's just that I was talking about something else." Roman stands in front of the painting of a mighty tiger with his hands in his pockets. "Okay, how about tonight?" "Tonight? Even though we're meeting now, and tonight we'll be talking on the phone." Roman rolled his eyes. "Why not?" Ethan laughed, then wrapped his arm around Roman's. "Okay, if you insist! Let's call tonight until we fall asleep. How about it?" "I don't in-" "Okay, deal!"
