About His Past

1811 Words
Ethan woke up on Monday morning with heavy eyes and sore shoulders. But hey, who else is excited to wake up on Monday morning? So, as usual, Ethan got ready and came down to the dining table, eating his favorite bread and chocolate jam. While his father was reading the newspaper while enjoying his morning coffee. And his mother was putting on her makeup. Nothing peculiar happened this morning. So it could be concluded that Mr. and Mrs. Oakland hadn't heard anything about Mrs. Pearson. After all, they didn't wake up when that thing happened. "Ethan, where will you go out with Liana today?" He took a peeked at his father, though all he could see was a row of black letters and his finger. "I don't know. I wanted to ask her first if she could go out with me today," said Ethan. In fact, Ethan wouldn't ask Liana to go today. Because since yesterday morning, he hasn't seen Roman at all. Even this morning, the Pearsons left without him. Ethan intended to greet them, but he canceled it after seeing Liana's wrinkled face, Odette looked irritated, and the twins were strangely quiet. It was inevitable that something had happened in that house. Ethan arrives at his office with an annoying feeling that he can't even get rid of, even if he dealing with lots of meetings and graphs, charts, or a ton of numbers. Ethan felt the only way to get rid of the annoying feeling that was tormenting him was to teleport to Roman's office; if Ethan got right into his room, he would stand in front of him and insist him tell him everything had happened since the last time they saw each other. Which was actually just yesterday morning, but still because it seemed like many things were going on that he didn't know about. But unfortunately, for now, the teleportation machine is still a concept that he often sees in films or books. No one has created a machine like this in the real world. So Ethan had to drive about fifteen minutes to get to Roman's office, meet the receptionist, say what he needed, and wait. Then when he was allowed to enter the lift, he would go upstairs and meet his secretary, then be directed into Roman's office. Maybe all of that will take about half an hour if he thinks about it. And if that arrogant Seamus was still his secretary. Ethan may need extra time and some emotional support from his friends. Not to mention the man named Freeland, who might be there because Ethan was run out of good luck. Or if he could borrow Harry Potter's invisible cloak, maybe Ethan could visit Roman in his office. But unfortunately, this option is also not possible. And too perilous for Ethan, who often accidentally nudged things when he was in a hurry. So, it is a wise choice not to visit Roman in his office at any time. After all, Ethan can meet Roman at the Early Rise Coffee Bar. Ethan wondered when there would be another live music event because he couldn't wait to get back on stage and sing another song. Even though he didn't know what song he would sing yet. After all, he would choose what song when he walked into the stage and come up with the best possible choices. But Ethan was surprised. As soon as he got to the cashier to pay for his drink, Guen walked to him with messy hair like she had just faced a tornado. "Oh my God, Ethan. Where is him?" Ethan frowned and looked left and right if a screen showed what Ethan had to say to answer Guen's question. "Roman, he hasn't been picking up my calls since this morning." "Really? I didn't see him go to work either, just his children, and they didn't look well either. Either he left earlier, or he didn't go to his office today." Guen massaged his forehead. "He wouldn't leave his jobs, so I guess he went to the office before you spy on him." Ethan nodded his head. "Yeah, you ri— Wait a minute, I spy on him? I didn't do it Guen, it's nonsense." Did Ethan get caught? Guen laughed mockingly. "You really think that he is a dumb old man, aren't you?" "No, no, Guen. What you me—" But Guen put his finger in front of Ethan's lips, making him stop saying whatever he wanted to ask. "It's not something important right now; we will talk about it later. But obviously, he avoiding us, and something must have happened, but I don't know what yet." Ethan nodded. He also had to put a window sticker on his bedroom window so that people who saw his bedroom window would think that Ethan was just closing his bedroom window, even though he was spying on that old man. "So, kids, is there something you know that I don't?" Thanks to Guen, he'll also ask Carter to put the sticker on when he comes to visit. "Something happened yesterday, Guen. That could be the starting point of the problem." Guen reluctantly pulled Ethan to the second floor, they seated at a table located near the stairs, so if Roman came, the two of them could easily hold him. Ethan then told how he met Mrs. Pearson at the bar, how drunk she was when Ethan took her home, and how Odette and Roman caught him and Liana while trying to sneak her in. "Oh God, it's worse than I imagined." Though Ethan hasn't told the worst part yet. However, he wouldn't tell her either. "I haven't seen him since then," said Ethan. Guen nodded his head, then she stood up with his hands in his pants pockets. "Okay then." Ethan, who was confused, held Guen's movement. Guen glanced at Ethan's hand, holding her back from walking. "If it's involved Ane, it means there's nothing we can do about it," she said, carelessly shrugging his shoulders. "Why tho?" You can see that Guen's eyeballs move from left to right then go up. "Because the two of them never change since a long time ago." "Since a long time ago? You know them for a long time?" Gun nodded. "The three of us study at the same campus and even in the same major. How come we didn't know each other from the first place?" Ethan widened his eyes. He was interested in knowing how Roman was when he was in college. Then Guen returned to his seat, like a dog who had just been given a treat; Ethan sat back in his chair with his hands supporting his cheeks and an unwavering gaze from Guen, who was telling a story. Since the first day of college, she and Roman have known each other, but the funny thing is that they only became close friends in their third year when they accidentally ended up in the same project. "That old man hasn't always talked much. He only has a few friends because he's more interested in books than talking to someone. It's not that he's bullied or anything. Many people have feelings for him. It's just hard to ask him to join a conversation or ask him to meet new people." Ethan wasn't surprised to hear that; maybe if other people listened to the story too, they wouldn't be so surprised either. "But who would have thought that this cool man actually had feelings for Ane, and suddenly they became a couple. But actually, I am against their relationship." That fact just took Ethan by surprise. "Why you against their relationship, Guen?" "They live in opposite parts of the world, Ethan." Ethan raised his eyebrows. "The opposite parts of the world?" "Right." Gun nodded his head. "Roman, as we know, is a nerd. His life revolves around campus, library, gym, art gallery, seminar, and home. While Ane spends most of her time attending a party and having fun." "Roman doesn't like alcohol; he only drinks under certain circumstances, while Ane can drink until she's unconscious. I still remember how irritated Roman had to pick up Ane at the bar almost every week. I also feel sad when Roman gives Archie and Roe, his beloved cat and tortoise, to someone else just because Ane doesn't like animals. But the thing that I don't like the most is when Ane takes Roman to a bar because she holds her birthday party there, and Roman can't be missing his girlfriend's birthday party, right? That would be very strange. But actually, there is much more than that." Ethan's brows furrowed. "Why are they still together then?" Guen looked up at the ceiling of his cafe. "They are two people who love each other. It's just that they have different hobbies. What I like is that they always try to find something that they can do together, like going to the movies or just laying in bed all day long." "So he gave his pet to someone else so Mrs. Pearson could spend time in his house, huh?" "Yup, you were right." Ethan folded his arms across his chest, his lips curled. It turned out that he was in love with Ane. "But actually, those are not the things that make me against their relationship." Ethan looked at Guen. "At that time, a foreign company was interested in Roman and wanted Roman to intern in their overseas office, but Ane disagreed with that because she didn't want to have a long-distance relationship with Roman. So she tricks Roman. I assume that she tricks Roman, even though he wouldn't admit it." "What did she do?" "She pretended to be drunk and made Roman sleep with her, then, in the end, she got pregnant, and the plan worked, and Roman canceled the contract with the company. Roman ended up in his father's company, and he was appointed CEO after Liana was born and their marriage was held." This time, Guen, who usually looks energetic and happy, lowered her head and looked at the table. "That man could have changed the world, but he ended up like that." Ethan doesn't know what Guen meant, though his position as CEO of that company is already imposing. Guen then smiled at Ethan. "He deserves more." "Yeah, you were right. He deserved more." Guen then stood up, but Ethan didn't hold him back this time. "He will be fine, and he will come back to us as soon as possible, so we just have to wait for him to reach us first. You can hang out with another guy first while you wait for him to come back." Ethan was silent for a while before he finally followed Guen down the stairs tapping his shoulder, while Guen just laughed.
