Why I Wanted to Marry Her

2010 Words
Ethan wanted to cover his ears tightly. When her mother and Mrs. Pearson nagging about how Roman’s question didn’t make any sense last night. How that question is not related to the topic they’re talking about.  They want to immediately hold a magnificent wedding for both of their children.  It would be breathtaking if they were hanging out with their friend while Ethan or Liana joined them, right? They’re like a prince and princess. Come on! They can’t wait to show off their children’s partners.  “But mom, I think he’s right.”  Ethan was about to tell them about his opinion when Mrs. Pearson immediately attacked him with ravings, standing on his mom’s side against everything Roman did. Also, how’s Ethan supposed to be on their side, not on his side.  Even though, is not that true? A perfect person doesn’t need anybody to live, they can do everything on their own, or maybe they prefer to do it alone.  Including one thing Roman said, the first question from his task, filling a void that nobody could fill.  Deep inside his heart, hiding a naive child, he thinks when he married, they both will have a happily-ever-after life, sit on the couch while watching a funny comedy movie, with some snack or a child that seat between them.  Or going to the zoo seeing a different kind of animal rarely found by their child at home. He will be happy to show his child how majestic our earth is. Ethan imagines how twinkle would be in their eyes while pointing at a lion and yelling, “That cat was huge, I want to pet him!”  or while they see a bear and shouting, “A big dog, can we bring him home?” Or they will confuse looking at giraffes because no animal has a really long neck, or there is no animal as big as an elephant. Or, after going through a fun day, when it’s time to sleep, Ethan will go to his child’s room, reading a tale about how a knight saves a princess trapped in the castle and how he has to fight a scary dragon to free the princess.  Or maybe he will change a story a little bit. That beautiful princess actually hides a mighty sword behind her layered grown. With fire inside of her heart, she took out the sword and killed the dragon! Then back to her palace to tell her people that she had conquered the scary dragon. There will be a massive celebration for their victory. Ethan will talk about his version when he sees his children get bored with the original version.  When they finally sleep. Ethan will go to his room. He will talk to his wife about something he’s going through on the day. Whether it’s happy, sad, frustrating, or funny. Like I heard a cat voice, and it turns out that his co-workers wanted to see a cat video but his phone still connected to the speaker. But in reality, marriage won’t be that easy, right? And the most important thing, it definitely not a answers that Roman want isn’t it?” Stop talking nonsense, Ethan! He might be kicked out of his house if that childish answer came out of his mouth. Moreover, the other question of the task. Oh, is Ethan rivaling Hercules with his 12 labors right now? Why does he want to marry her then? Wasn't it because of his parent? And Roman should also be on his wife’s side that wants that marriage held as soon as possible.  If he answers it because of love, it looks like not just kicked out of that annoying old man's house. Maybe Ethan will be kicked out of his life too.  Come on, Ethan! Think about something else that makes sense.  His mom and Mrs. Pearson seem to get bored talking about Roman. They now gossiping about one of his mom’s “friends” she holds an expensive and useless birthday party on a cruise ship for a week. How she’s not invited to that grand party and the other things that his mom hates her. Ethan prefers to play with his phone numerous times, scrolling to i********:, which basically his friends showing off anything that looks unreasonably expensive and utterly useless at the same time. Of course, everyone doesn't need to know where you're going to sleep tonight, or where you're having dinner tonight, or who you're with, and how happy it is. It’s the opposite compared with Ethan, who mostly reposts what his friends post. Yeah, it’s like a parrot. The only thing that made him different from a parrot was using a device instead of his own voice. Actually, Ethan was surprised by a post. He never sees that room with a warm and calming blue light and that huge tv before. A minimalist room, Ethan would say it’s a cheap room if he doesn’t know how much that tv cost. And it turns out that the post is from Liana. No wonder he never saw that room before.  Remember her face when she was forced to give her i********: account to Ethan after Roman left, making him laugh. Was he that disgusting in her eyes? It's so hard to win her heart. Usually only takes half an hour to bring a woman to her knees for Ethan.  Ethan has to admit that she’s different from the girls he often sees, it proved by his father’s careless behavior. Ethan put on a lazy face when it repeated in his head the events of last night, where Roman, with his sturdy figure and still looking tough at that age, without feeling guilty, left the dining table and decided to wait in his luxurious and quiet car. Half of his soul just floated away when he imagined not being able to answer that cranky old man's question. His history records would be added a new story. He was rejected at an arranged marriage because he could not mention his weakness. Really embarrassing. The following post is still from Liana. A short video showed up with girls older than her, a twin boy, and that cranky and annoying old man, Roman.  They will spend time together while watching a movie. But it's weird considering that Mrs. Pearson is here with his mother instead of spending time with the rest of her family. Is she still mad at Roman for the question he asked Ethan? Ethan shrugged his shoulders. He preferred not to get involved in something that was going between them.  Then his eyes unintentionally looked at the account that was tagged on Liana’s last post.  Roman has an i********:? Without hesitation, his finger pressed that flat screen. Then the page switches, showing a circle sign that is spinning. Ethan stomped his right foot; his eyes didn't even blink, his fist pressed against his mouth.  “It’s not locked!”  Ethan's shout even stopped the two women from talking, with two pairs of eyes staring sharply at him. Although not a single word or sound comes from them, Ethan knows that he has to explain what is not locked and why he becomes so excited knowing that things are unlocked.  “S-so,” he stammered while locking her phone, then put that thing in his pocket.  It would be bizarre if Ethan was so excited to know Roman's i********: account unlocked, which meant he could freely look through his account. Ethan cleared his throat. “So the thing is unlocked, that making me shout and feel happy,” he says with doubt; even from the way he speaks, he looks like asking rather than answering.  He should have come up with an answer that sounded firmer or at least more convincing. They glanced at each other, again without a word, they agreed on something. A further explanation.  Ethan turned his head slightly, but his eyes darted around, looking for something that had a key, convincing enough reason to get him out from the two pairs of eyes.  Until finally, his eyes darted at his grey sports cars. A confident smile etched on his face while looking at them, Ethan said. "I haven't locked the car yet, so I'll excuse myself for a second." Ethan stood up, then grabbing the key that he put above the table, he walked confidently towards his car. Never once in his life, he been this excited, walking towards his cars just to check if his card is unlocked. After all, his car is equipped with advanced technology, which is why he chose this car. It can be automatically locked if the key is within a certain distance. Fortunately, his mom and Mrs. Pearson never bothered with the car because there would always have someone to take care of it for them, so why bother? He pretended to press the button on the keys when he opened the door. Then he's sitting on the chair near the door. It seems that they will ask more questions if Ethan is back. After all, Ethan felt that they didn’t need him anymore.  He glanced at the front in front of him, Pearson’s house. Even though the place looked like nobody was home, no one seemed to be outside the house. What did an annoying cranky old man do right now? Grumble? He chuckles.  Are they finished watching a movie?  What kind of movie did he watch? Is he understand a superhero movie like Avengers or X-men? Or do his poor kids have to watch a nearly expired movie like Ghostbuster or karate kids? A smile danced on his lips when all those presumptions passed through his mind; it was as if they had really happened, not just in his mind. Imagine that old man grumbles or is dissolved by the mood that movies have offered him. A piece of memory when he found out Roman’s i********: passed through his mind, making his eyes glittered in happiness.  “I’m was about going to scroll through his account, right? I could have found the answer he wanted from his i********: post,” he beamed when he saw Roman account on his screen.  Post that got his attention is a post that seems uninteresting; it is just that old man laughing while holding his twins; he looks at the camera, which confirms that he consciously wanted the moment to be captured, or maybe he had asked for it. But the twins seem not really want to be in that photos, one of them is focused on a toy in his hand, and the other seems to see something interesting outside the camera range.  And who would have thought, someone who’s taking those pictures is Liana, maybe with her phone and then she sends it to Roman’s phone, making the quality of those pictures isn’t that great, or perhaps they made it that way on purpose. To add an aesthetic touch or an impression like a newly planned photo taken a second ago. That reason could also underlie why the twins don't look at the camera. Ah. Isn't it wonderful to have a family like that? If what Ethan imagined really happened, wouldn't Roman's life be perfect? His company was a huge success this year, why he chose with the graphs continuing to soar as the months went by. A beautiful wife, even though she is a bit fussy and doesn't seem to stay at home often, his first daughter, who appears to be following her father's success, Liana, who is beautiful like her mother and looks brilliant, who might just be she got from Roman. And don’t forget about his twins. Having twins are already extraordinary before they even do anything. There’s nothing to worry about if he has that perfect life; that’s why he has time to nag and grumble.  This time something hit him like a giant iron ball had just thrown all its mass at Ethan. “Why do I want to marry your daughter? I think I know.”
