Chapter Seven: Reason

1028 Words
" Yes, leader!" the gracious Dana in an alluring fur dress stepped out in the hall to stand beside Volke. She stood tall, and fit. Her toned skin screamed attractiveness. She lowered her head in reverence as she approached Volke, peering a short glance towards Darren and Kyley. " I don't have to tell you twice what you have to do." Volke turned to face Darren and said, pointing at Dana. Kyley hearing this visibly shuddered behind Darren. She looked towards Dana, her emotions a mix of hatred, resentment, fear, and inevitable loss. Kyley hadn't thought that this was why Volke would abduct their daughter, she hadn't wanted it to be the reason. Of course, while thinking of Volke's reason for having abducted they'd daughter on their way to Lunaria, Kyley was able to put two and two together from her knowledge of the past incidents. She'd figured this stunning lady had to be the reason but she hoped it was something else! But now, her stomach turned hearing it was just as she'd thought. Kyley knew exactly what Volke was implying, after all, Darren had confessed everything that had happened between him and Dana in the past to her. Although she had pushed it aside as Darren's err and forgave it, she didn't know how to feel about it happening again. Right in front of her as well! She felt gutted, terrifyingly small and side-lined. Her insecurities caught up to her. How was she to compete with Dana? The latter is a stunning and spotless beauty. However, she didn't want her daughter harmed as well... She feared that Darren would have to leave her for Dana if they wanted Skye back. She believed that would be Volke's demand. Confused as to what to do, Kyley could only look towards Darren. Her eyes scanned his expression, hoping he'd make everything right as he always does. Her trust in him was that much, but before Dana, it wavered. " Hahaha!" Darren burst out laughing, causing Kyley to shoot a concerned glance that bordered between uncertainty and worry. " Really, the more you speak the more I believe the rumors about you." Volke frowned hearing Darren say this, sweeping a glance around as if to inquire from whom this rumor started from. More importantly, what exactly was this rumor? Volke moved his prying eyes from the cowering gazes of his pack and focused his gaze back on Darren again as the latter added. "No, in fact, I confirm that the rumor is nothing but the cold harsh truth. You've really gone senile in your old age." Darren mocked. Volke squinted at this, clearly not taking the mockery lightly. For some reason known to him and a couple of the people around, that comment really struck a nerve. " You really think you can drag me here by abducting my daughter and make me do whatever you want me to do?" Darren's voice hardened, raising with each sentence. "You think I'd just follow and abide by your bidding like these lowly mutts you surround yourself with?" Darren snapped, ignoring the subtle grunts and growls from around. He straightened his back, pointing towards the lady holding his daughter and demanded. " Give Skye back, or I swear you'll watch the whole of Lunaria whither into ruin. All by my very claws!" His tone was calm but the intent behind his words boomed loudly, evident of his fury. Darren wouldn't do any more wrong just to please Volke. He wouldn't betray Kyley. Not even when the world is ending, not ever again! He'd rather fight, and die than betray Kyley again. Besides, he knew Volke all too well. Darren. knew he was only after his submission. If he didn't act against him now, he would only find himself in a bigger mess later the more he agreed and succumbed to his threats. Silence! The hall was dead mute for a long while. Heavy pressure fell on the hall, not even a breath could be caught. Although some doubted Darren's threat, they didn't doubt his tenacity and will to do just what he'd threatened. After all, who wouldn't do the same in the situation at hand? Kyley who stood behind Darren wasn't any different from him. She had thought at first that they could find reason with Volk as she didn't want Darren to have a messed up relationship with his father. She wanted the best for him... However, he was indeed not someone who saw reason at all. After all, What kind of a father would do something like this, not even the unreasonable ones would go this far. At this point, Kyley gave no care as to their relationship. She wanted her damn daughter back! " It's because of that damned dog beside you isn't it?" Volke spoke after a while of silence, glancing at Kyley with disgust. Kyley tensed, her body went still. Meeting Volke's gaze, she froze in place. Although frustrated being called a dog, she was still overwhelmed by his peering gaze and couldn't help but shudder and look away, clinging closer to Darren. Darren clenched his fist tight hearing this, but didn't say anything. ' Looks like I've only been doing too much talking for this senile bastard...' This time, he was going to act! Darren gently pushed Kyley behind, his gaze burning with fury and rage. Kyley, confused at first as to why Darren would push her aside looked up. Only to see a look that she knew all too well on his face. He's mad! Kyley's eyes widened, knowing well Volke's comment just now had triggered Darren. Though Kyley wanted Darren to fight for her and their child, she knew clearly that they were at a disadvantage. Without hesitation, she lunged at Darren who had moved to attack Volk. Surprised, Darren frowned at Kyley, " What are you doing? Step aside." His voice was cold and mean, not to her, but to the situation. Kyley didn't let go of her hold on him however. She shook her head and begged, almost crying. " No Darren, Skye... she'll..." She couldn't finish her words and could only point.
