SEVEN YEARS LATER. Eric stood as he watched his wife’s coffin go down the earth. He did not want to believe what was happening. He wanted to scream and demand that everyone get out and that his wife was coming back, but then he could not. His body was so weak. His wolf was frustrated. He listened as the priest made prayers over her. It was raining heavily and it seemed like even the heavens was mourning. The people all around him were in black. Weeping and shaking their heads. They all had an umbrella over their heads all except him. His manservant had tried to put an umbrella over his head and he had sneered. “Don’t you dare put that thing over me!” And he recoiled and scurried away. It was like the dark cloud itself was all over him. Nobody wanted to dare come near him. They all feared him for fear that he was going to lash out at them and they were going to be his next victim. He listened as some women sang beautifully hymns for her. He saw a portrait of her. How beautiful she had been. He was still in shock, still in disbelief. He felt a hand over his shoulder. “Eric.” He heard the voice of his best friend, Louis, behind him say. Trying to pacify him. Eric remained the way he was. And then it was time to put his the rose over her coffin. He walked up to the finely built grave and then he merely looked down on it. He dropped the rose. And then he didn’t move. And then all of a sudden, he started scattering everywhere. Breaking everything, shattering everything in sight. He tore his white button shirt open and howled in anger. The people screamed and started dispersing in fear. Some tried to restrain him, but they were not able to. It seemed impossible to. “He has gone mad! Mad I say!” Someone said in the dysfunctional crowd. And then eventually, he stopped and to the shock of everyone present, he stormed out of the burial ceremony and rode off. Someone fainted as he left. Once he got home, he stalked into the mansion and started to destroy everything in sight. Break things, fling things. The servants were perplexed and in complete shock. He destroyed everything. “My Lord you would wake the child.” The house keeper pleaded with him. But he did not answer and he kept on destroying everywhere and soon the screams of the child could be heard through the mansion. The housekeeper ran back to pacify the child. Eric’s beautiful black hair was not tied to a bun as it usually was. Now his hair was let loose and he looked like a mad man. He picked up a bottle of a wine and drank from it. Drank himself to stupor to pour out his frustration. Then he staggered up the stairs amidst the screams of his child. He ignored it and went up to their bedroom. He picked up a picture of Cecilia and looked down into her beautiful eyes. She was so beautiful. So f*****g beautiful. He held her portrait and sat down on the floor, totally depressed. Then he remembered how it has all happened. He has gotten back home after a day out with his pack. She had been smiling at him excitedly. “Welcome back home.” She kissed his cheek. Ever since she had their second child and it had survived she wa happier. She had lost her first child. She had given birth to a stillborn child and she had cried for weeks and was not the same. Eventually she had gotten better, but she had not conceived until six years later and then into the seven years she gave birth to their son. She had been so excited and then he had been happy too. Because finally she was happy. When she had given birth to their son Alan, she was so happy and he could se the joy in her eyes return. Now he felt that his wife was back to him. “Thank you.” He said as he kissed the top of her nose. “Of course.” She laughed. “How is Alan?” He asked her. “He is sound asleep.” She told him. “He is such a beautiful child.” Alan was just a week old now. “Oh before I forget, something came in today.” She said and she smiled slyly. “I liked the surprise you sent to me.” “Surprise?” He said he himself surprised. She threw back her head and laughed and she looked like a child. “Oh so now you are acting like you are surprised.” She shook her head and walked down into the tea room. He follows her wondering what the hell she was going on about. And then she turned and faced him and smiled at him. It seemed like she was hiding something behind her. “What’s that?” He asked her. She brought out a single rose. It was not a red rose. It was a golden rose. He looked at it in shock. Before he could say anything. She gently touched the the petals. “The messenger you sent brought it for me.” She said sweetly. “I know how rare this gold roses are. I can’t believe you brought it for him.” “No!” He shouted. But it was too late. “Ouch.” She pricked her finger with a torn. He used his gloves hand and threw the rose away far away from them. And in a second, she collapsed, but he caught her in his arms. She started breathing slowly, he could see her slipping away. It was a poisonous rose. Gold roses were extremely rare and it was almost impossible to find. And one thing about it was that it was lethal. If the torn pricked you, you would die. “HELP! HELP! HELP!” He screamed out. He started to feel her body get cold. Then he saw tears roll down her cheeks slowly. She smiled at him weakly and gently touched his cheek. “Take care of Alan. I love you.” She said and then she died in his arms. He screamed out, cried and held his wife to him. That was how she had died. He had lost his wife to an enemy pack and he swore on the dead body of his wife to avenge her death. He flung the bottle of alcohol and it shattered into the wall. And then he rested his head on the wall and became quiet. The only sound he could hear was the screaming of his child.
