Chapter 9: Orders From The Top

POV: Lucien Kael “Get away from her! Did you get her drunk or high on something, just to take advantage of her?” He stormed in and shoved me hard, but I didn’t budge. “You don’t have any idea what's happening...be careful what you say to me...,” I said quietly, holding back a growl. “She’s human!” he shouted. “She’s not one of you...she's not yours....to do as you please!” “She’s not yours either...besides you're extremely lucky as a human...humans who know about us don't live to see the next day.” He didn't look scared. We stared each other down like animals ready to bite. I couldn't kill him cause he was the only who could get her away from me. And she would overreact if she finds out we killed him. "She's fine there is nothing wrong with her...she's just very horny." I added. His eyes went wide open. "What? Seraphina is never like that...you must have done something to her." He quickly reached for her again. "Hey! Sera....Sera." She was restless and coiled up. But then she reached out for him trying to sniff him...but then she pushed him away and then turned to me and reached out sniffing and pleading. "Please...can you..." The guy quickly covered her mouth and helped her up. She struggled with him trying to reach out to me so badly... “Come on, Sera. Let’s go.” He told her. I guess my scent was still clinging to her skin. My wolf growled inside me. “Please come back to your senses,” he said again, louder. I stepped back...to give space. She stumbled in his arms, she was obviously weak. He carried her on his back like a rescue mission, glaring at me the whole time. “You’ll regret this,” he said. “I’ll expose you... everything and every one of you. I’ll put you behind bars.” I said nothing because I knew if she stayed one second longer... I wouldn’t be able to stop myself. I didn’t make it two blocks before the call came. I answered, but didn't speak. There was silence, then a voice spoke. “Lucien...emergency meeting...Come now.” The Elder’s chamber was colder than usual. Elder George stood at the center of the table with arms folded behind his back. The other Elders sat in shadows, watching me like statues. “You were warned,” Elder George said slowly. “And yet you still made contact.” “She was in heat,” I said. “I didn’t touch her.” “Yet you wanted to. Didn’t you?” I stayed silent. He paced slowly. “Lucien. The girl you saw today... she’s not just an ordinary wolf. She’s THE OMEGA.” My chest tightened. “She's the sacred one,” another Elder added. “The one the Moonblood prophecy warned of. We have waited and searched for her for a long time now...” “She’s in her first heat,” George said. “It will pass...Then the second...The third and fourth...Only after the fifth may she be claimed.” “That might take a long time, we don't even know the pattern of her heat cycles...and her heat is really bad...I can't even imagine what she's going through.” “Exactly,” he snapped. “she has to endure the cycle no matter how hard it is...no matter the pain that might come...We couldn't trust anyone to do it, that's why we asked you to be in charge. You must ensure her protection, also ensure she makes it out alive through the heat cycles and discipline yourself not to do anything stupid." I stood up shocked. "If she makes it out alive? Are you trying to say her heat cycles could kill her if she doesn't get relieved?" The elder's adjusted, some clearing their throats. Then Elder George spoke again. "Yes! it could kill her. She is more sensitive and fragile than a normal omega...but she has to bear the burden for the sake of the pack." A long pause filled the room. “If anyone marks her before her time,” George said, eyes narrowing, “they’ll trigger the blood pact’s curse and the balance will shatter. Do you understand?" I nodded, jaw tight. “Understood.” “Good. Then keep your hands and your wolf away from her.” I left the chamber, with my head filled with questions I couldn't ask them yet. My body still carried her scent. This particular mission is extremely hard for me not just because of her scent but because she might be my fated one. Which makes my reactions worse. I always think straight, calm and logically but being around her makes me loose it all. I hated the situation. I hated how much I wanted her. I stepped into the hallway and heard some's voice.“Lucien,” Ayla said, looking concerned. She leaned on the wall like she had been waiting with arms crossed. “Rough meeting huh?” she asked. I didn’t answer. I wasn't myself. I was feeling weak and trying to breath. She walked closer. “They told you to stay away from the girl, didn’t they?” “Don’t start.” “I saw how you looked at her. Like she was made of gold.” “She isn’t yours to talk about.” She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “But she’s yours?” I didn’t reply. She reached out, touching my arm gently. “You don’t have to fight this alone. You have me. You....." She paused staring at me. "Lucien you're burning up...do you have a fever?" She put her hand on my forehead. I pulled her hand away from my face. "Leave me alone Ayla." "I'm just concerned cause you rarely fall sick....is it because of the stress or that girl?" I didn't reply, I just kept moving. "I think it's the girl...she has a negative effect on you...I'll get rid of her myself." She moved with raged determined to find Seraphina, but I quickly grabbed her hand. "Wait! don't go." I took her hand to my face, while staring into her soul. This was the only way to calm her down. "Stay with me, I need to rest in one of the rooms." I was her biggest weakness and I knew it. She turned red in seconds, blushing like a little kid. Her anger subsided. She took me to the spare room and made sure I rested while she dabbed my forehead with a cold cloth. I held one of her hands tight to avoid her from leaving. She loved it. She saw it as love. Meanwhile the only thing I could think of was Seraphina. Nothing else could come into my thoughts. At this point, it felt like I was obsessed and I had no control whatsoever over myself. I closed my eyes to rest and calm down when a call came in. I brought out my phone from my pocket. Call: Orion – one of my best warriors. I answered. “Lucien,” Orion said fast. “We have a situation.” My whole body tensed. “What kind?” “We picked up a trail... Pheromone-heavy...Fresh.” “Where?” “Near the girl...the Omega. It's the rogues. They’re hunting her...tracing her scent towards the hospital where her teammate took her to.” I stood up immediately. Ayla stood up too. "What happened?" I looked at her, trying not to break it to her and make her upset and unstable. "The girl is in trouble, and we need to protect her." "What?" She was already getting irritated. "It's our duty from the Elders to us warriors. I'll explain everything later." I took her hand, holding with both hands. She looked red again as she threw her head another direction. "Fine...let's go."
